Charlie Strong: Texas Won't Play for Title This Year

Well, this is pretty candid coming from a big-time college football coach. From The Dallas News:

“We have everything available, and I don’t know why we can’t be successful,” Strong said, according to the Austin American-Statesman. “There’s no reason for us not to be. Now, I can’t tell you how soon it’s going to be. Don’t hold me to that. Don’t say, ‘Ooh, coach said next year we’ll be in the national…’ We will not be in the national championship game.”

You read that correctly, Strong does not expect Texas to be in the national championship game next season.

I can appreciate the honest as a fan, but I'm not sure how I'd feel if I were a player under Charlie Strong.

Pretty sure they felt like this when he was hired:

Seems like the Rich Rod of Texas. I'm interested to watch this unfold.

Maybe this will get the players motivated and they might win a NC. But I feel that this is the year that Urban and Co. will at least get to the National Championship, if not win it.

This is probably stemming from the drastic culture change that he is having to deal with down there.  It doesn't sound like they have worked very hard down there for a while.  This is very similar to the "clown show" reference and not surprising since Strong is from Urban's coaching tree.
