Wichita State bows out

By Johnny Ginter on March 23, 2014 at 10:30p

The Shockers did pretty much everything they possibly could've. They shot 55% from the floor, hit 47% of their threes, had a player score 31 points, and went toe to toe with one of the best and therefore sleaziest coaches in the game.

And lost.

UK/Wichita State was one of the best games of the tournament so far, with both teams trading body blows for the last five minutes of the game. Kentucky has emerged as a force in the last half of the season, and showed why as four players scored 13 points or more and they out rebounded the Shockers by nine.

It'd be unfortunate if Wichita State was remembered as an overrated team that was exposed by a middling Kentucky team, because this was an incredible game between two teams playing at a very high level. The bad guys won, but it was a hell of a ride for the Shockers. Applause for all involved.

...and I remember I laughed at you for it.  Have an upvote sir.

Said it all season.  Cake schedule belied a team that played no one of real calibre this year.

(Of course that doesn't say much for OSU losing to those witches in the tourney (with a little ref help) last year.) Meh.

Go Bucks!

I think they got screwed by even having to play UK in the second round.

Does a great team having their tourney run end early against an underseeded UK team peaking at the right time sound familiar?

It was funny hearing Barkley and everyone talk after they lost. Barkley said they were still great. A team that wins that much is extremely good. That all who say they are in a poor conference are wrong and don't know basketball. It is not Wichita States fault that everyone in their conference is not good. Hmmmm..... Backtracking on his logic a bit? I recall completely opposite sentiment when referring to OSU for several years. (Football as well by many analysts).

ugh, stupid analysts

You can feed a bobcat all the chili it wants. That don't mean it's going to crap out diamonds.

I watched Kentucky play a game earlier in the year and based on that game I didn't think they had a prayer here.  It was quite a performance by all of those freshman for Kentucky and they could be a big-time threat if they keep playing like this.  Their game against Louisville could be electric though.

I don't know what I would've done in that situation, but was anybody surprised they went for the win rather than the tie at the end? I'm not sure they had enough time to attempt to drive the lane, though...

Faced off against top tier talent on a big time stage and fell short.  Take your pumpkin and go home.  Not surprised or feeling bad for them at all.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

Best college basketball game I've seen in a while. A least since the finals last year. Wichita State is a very, very good team. Kentucky is peaking and had to play their best to win. Wouldn't want to play them right now.

That was the best Kentucky has played all year so....yeah it happened to be just enough.  Congrats to them.

You're crazy though if you think Wichita State got exposed as a bad team or something.

Agreed. By far the 2 best teams, at least the 2 best performances, I've seen in the tourney.
