America 12, F--- Yeah!

The name has not officially been approved by the league's presidents. The conference also is considering several other names, sources said.

However, Covington & Burling, the conference's law firm, purchased and registered the domain name America12.org on Tuesday, according to WhoIs domain-registration data.

The Big East's law firm also registered other variations of America 12 on Tuesday, including America12Conference.com, America12Sports.com, American12.org, American12conference.com, AmericaTwelve.com and TheAmerica12Conference.com.

The Big East -- the one you know right now as the Big East -- is losing the Big East name to the "Catholic 7", the non-football Catholic universities that will take the name with them when they leave the Big East.  This seems to be the name they've settled on.

To clarify (since I had to look it up), this "America 12" conference will include these teams: Central Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, Southern Methodist, South Florida, Temple, and Tulane. Navy is scheduled to join in 2015 as a football-only member.  By my count, that's only 11 teams.  Soooo, there's something else in store.

Texas. I bet they get Texas.
Also I feel like American 12 sounds a little better than America 12. JMO

They aren't exactly here to save the mother f---in' day, yeah!

I'll still leave it up to this rag tag bunch of heroes.

Man, who would downvote Joe, former Nebraska All-American QB?

just another psycho, irrational, delusional Ohio St fan

Apparently he/she doesn't like his acting.

Not the American 12
Not the Big American
Not the American
But the America 12. Could've been much better.
Also, why couldn't the "Big East" call themselves the "Holy Ten"?

The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.

Love the Holy 10. Now Notre Dame couldn't refuse to join as they are the holiest.
(FYI:Graduate of Wehrle (catholic) high school and catholic grade school.   But a Lutheran now)

Their emblem could be Robin from Batman.  "Holy 10!"   Yeah, they need a masked man.

How about "CYO?"

I know it's not original, but it still works.

The name makes my brain hurt.

I think it's appropriate, given that it's essentially a reboot of Conference USA.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw that.  Do they really want to go back to those days?

coming to save the mother f@ckin day!

They must have hired the same marketing group that came up with Leaders and Legends.

Italics are for emphasis; an ellipsis represents an unfinished thought.

And tOSU revamped logo

Phillips.449's picture

If they went with the folks that did the revamped tOSU logo, the name would have been the Big Eastern Conference.

Easy. That kind of craptackular branding will likely never be duplicated. That's like comparing OSU and Miami of Ohio. Big Team America Catholic 12 East....what the he'll was that conference name again. Never mind by the time we remember the big ten will expand again and we get to do this all over.

I think Junior Varsity Conference is still available. That would make more sense.

So.....if they add/subtract/edit in the years ahead shall they be referred to as America 12,
2.0 (and so on)?

No longer complaining about the B1G.

I feel sorry for Cincinnati, they have really made an effort to step up and improve and this is a huge setback!

I feel for them and Uconn, being that I'm from Ct. Hopefully both will be scooped up through realignment and salvaged from this pitiful excuse for a conference

It really sux the Bearcats finally made it to a BCS conf and now its gone to shit. I just hope they turn their efforts from the ACC to the Big-12 before the ACC falls apart too!

If Ricky Stanzi had eligibility left, he would transfer to one of these schools.

BuckNutInAnnArbor's picture

As HAIL said, this is basically a mix of the really old Conference USA before Cinci left for the BIG(L)EAST and a few other teams of the same caliber. Craptastic 12 is what it needs to be called.

America is too good for just "12".  America 50, now that's more like it!
America Infinity Plus One.
Nailed it.
You're welcome.
