The Ohio State University was recently named the Diversion Rate Champion for the 2012 Game Day Challenge, a national stadium recycling competition. (osu.edu)

This is pretty cool.....if you never been to a landfill you should try and squeeze in a visit. It's pretty sickening and eye opening how wasteful we human beings are.

Seriously, I do think it's great OSU is doing everything it can to minimize our waste, and recylce as much as possible. Being a leader in sustainability IS a big deal. B1G ! B1G !

I commend OSU for doing this. I am not an eco freak or anything, but in our house we have been recycling for several years and have gotten to the point now of producing just 1 normal size trash can every 2 weeks that we put out for the trash man. Keep in mind this is a family of 4, my wife and I plus 2 teenage boys.

http://sustainability.osu.edu/zerowaste (linked in the article, but here for the lazy) talks about some of their initiatives. Pretty interesting, especially when you look at the composting efforts and not just trash v. recyclables.

I can't imagine what it must be like to clean Ohio Stadium after a game. When I was in school, our club signed up to clean the lower deck of the Schott after a few events. I've learned that people are sloppy and downright rude. Why people think it's OK to leave their drinks, spill popcorn everywhere, stick their used gum under chairs and spit their chew on the floor in a public place just blows my mind. Also, never volunteer to clean the Schott after a monster truck pull, it will just completely erase any faith you have in Western Civilization.
