Agreed. Why didn't ND respond to Deadspin right away if they have known about this for 3 weeks? They could have gotten out in front of this when Deadspin called by making a statement right then. Instead they ignored Deadspin and by doing so ND let Deadspin shape the narrative. So either ND has a PR dept that is completely incompetent or they are full of crap. There are so many things about this that don't make sense.

I think Deadspin was going on more than that one source, like the timeline of events and Te'o's remarks in interviews. It wasn't so much a "character assassination" as bumping into someone they discovered was a vampire and opening the windows to let in sunlight.

Forde was on Te'o as his front runner for the Heisman from midseason on. He made the statement that not only was he a worthy player but his story was inspiring and the story made him a bigger and better candidate. Now to validate his own stance and the accompanying swollen head he maintains on a daily basis, he will pound out story after story backing Te'o. Journalism doesn't exist anymore. It's all about writers egos.

This is priceless. The RMS Fighting Irish his an iceberg this week and so far, Jack Swarbrick and Pat Forde have decided to stay in first class sipping brandy, hitching their reputations to the idea that things just aren't that big of a deal. Meanwhile, everyone with a thimble full of common sense has a good enough head on their shoulders to get the eff off the sinking ship by not making broad, sweeping statements about their unwavering support for said sinking ship.
