got to admit, its pretty cool to see how pumped their fanbase is for the move (see comments). Fresh air after hearing "the B1G sucks" "slow" terrible coaches" yadayada for so many years now. I guess dollars CAN do a lot... haha
It'a funny- Maryland fans are almost unanimously against it (I live in the DC area, and you should hear the radio call-ins right now) but Rutgers fans are psyched.
I've seen a few Rutgers games that were big Thursday night'ers, and their fanbase got pretty into it. They're no a true power right now but I really do think they could be.
Honestly, the recipe for having multiple 1 or 2 loss teams in a conference is to have weak teams under them. The SEC this year has a lot of teams that simply get to avoid playing eachother. Would Florida have only 1 loss if they played Bama? Would LSU be a 2 loss team if they also faced Georgia? If we have a 14 team conference where Ohio State has a marquee non conference game and they play Michigan and Wisconsin in conference every year we'll be in good shape. Same could go for Wisky and Nebraska and Michigan.
"Hey, I assume you saw....well, you see, we're going to invite Rutgers to join the conference..... Sure, call Texas, I don't care, we'd take you both - there's still room, but this whole press conference is happening tomorrow and you're either going to be in or out eventually."
When, in all of this realignment push of the last several years, did schools start inviting themselves? Especially two non entities like Rutgers and Maryland? I mean we essentially told Missouri thanks but no thanks when they tried to invite themselves and they were a decent fit with potential rivalries already in place with Iowa and Illinois. And while these two will add television sets in that region, they do not have the national weight that the last two B1G additions did. If anything this smacks of desperation on Delany's part.
The delay for the invitation could just be a formality. It could be to let Maryland have it's day in the spotlight, then let Rutgers have their day. It's only fair.
The big ten never really invites them even though they do. they always say (neb. maryland) that they accept the application when everyone knows they were invited

It is nice to have it close by. I'm looking forward to the 20 min drive from my house to The Game this Saturday. :-)

Guys, it'll be once every 2 or 6 years depending on the division alignment. Wouldn't get too excited.

I've been saying this a lot today. This is how you pull in the big dogs like Texas and ND, as well.
Sparky in their comments is the biggest troll I've ever seen ... xD!

So technically they haven't been invited?
