That's fair. The AP is giving Ohio State serious consideration. Good.

Only beef I have is Oregon is #5 behind a Georgia team, which lost by 28 points compared to 3 points for Oregon. How can you say they are a top 3 team with losing as bad as they did.

This is the trouble with polls: writers will protect their reputations.

The winner plays on the field...not on the page.

Fine.  Going up to Madison and winning a game that Ohio State was neither favored, nor picked by the experts, like Phil Steele, to win, the Buckeyes are still undefeated and ranked behind two teams that lost games.

We're just about suck in this position.  Too many things have to happen for Ohio State to reach #1.

I guess I can kinda understand the frustration, but I don't share it, personally.  GA and Bama are probably better teams, IMO.  If the point of voting 1-25 is to rank teams according to what your opinion is, then that felling is obviously shared by many others.

It's not all about records ... several one loss Bucks teams have been ranked ahead of undefeated teams from lesser conferences, that is what is happening here.

Hopefully we win out, beating TTUN, and parlaying the great year into a high starting spot next year.

Besides a similarly overrated Florida team, who is Georgia's best win?  How can you say they're "probably better"?

The SEC is the greatest propaganda machine the world has ever seen.

onetwentyeight's picture
onetwentyeight on 18 Nov 2012 - 4:15pm #

EXACTLY. It's reached the point where a close "S-E-C" LOSS is actually more VALUABLE than an actual footbal game WIN in any other conference.

Yes, I understand that just being undefeated on its face doesn't automatically mean you're the best team, (See: that BCS Hawaii team). But things like WINS and LOSSES shouldn't have ZERO value and things like "Conference affiliation" can't be 100% of how you weigh these rankings.

I'm so disgusted with the SEC right now, it's gotta so out of hand that I just ... UGH

Can't wait for the playoffs to finally roll along and for hopefully the CIRCULAR SEC JERKFEST to end.

Is Florida really over rated?  They beat LSU, Texas A&M, and South Carolina.

William on 19 Nov 2012 - 1:01am #

LSU isn't that great, they couldn't shake Wofford. Texas A&M has come on fairly well, but they're a 2 loss team. South Carolina is a MSU clone.

To be honest, I don't see what all the fuss is about. At the end of the day, does it really matter what these so-called "experts" think about Ohio State? No. It doesn't. We knew that OSU wasn't playing in a bowl.

All that matters to me is that we beat Michelin. Then we go 12-0. Let the pricks argue it out over the winter. I'll be buying my "university approved apparel" made by some 12 year old kid in Sri Lanka. So they can go piss up a rope(the experts).

It matters not to me if some pollster votes an undefeated OSU team #1 or #5. If OSU goes undefeated, that's all that matters to me. 2013 is looking very interesting.

Here's what I don't get.  5 media members have Ohio State ranked 10th or lower.  One person, Josh Kendall (South Carolina), has them 14th!!!! 14th!!!  I understand ranking some one loss teams ahead of OSU, but are you kidding me?!?!?  He actually had us 8th last week and dropped OSU to 14th? After a win?  I don't get the logic behind some of these choices.

Danify's picture

Think about it, why would a homer SEC writer want Ohio State to be #1 and AP National Chamipion over their conference (or teams) in the SEC.

It's called they've learned to work the system to get 6 (yes 6) SEC teams in the top 10. And it won't stop till they get beatdown in the NCG or don't win one for a few years.

A few thoughts:

A&M beats #1 Bama on the road and jumps from 15 to 9. Stanford, with an identical record as A&M, a comparable schedule, minus a star QB with a sweet nickname, beats #1 Oregon on the road and jumps from 14 to 11.  Hmmmm.

I'm actually glad to see that Oregon didn't drop farther. I still think they are a quality team that could knock off Bama or whichever SEC team magically makes it into the NC game.  I think it is very possible, if not likely, that ND loses to USC this week.  Oregon will be poised to jump back up to #2 once the SEC championship sorts itself out. Ironically, they might be playing for a national championship without even winning their own division, much less the Pac 12. Happened last year.  Let's see if anyone holds that against them the way they didn't hold it against Bama.

I really don't care about an AP championship.  A win over scUM is enough for me.  I think OSU is getting the Boise State treatment and frankly, it is deserved.  OSU is a very good team that could beat anyone in the top ten given a month to prepare (or could lose to anyone) but in the end, the resume just isn't very impressive. I would much prefer to be bowl eligible so we can see how we measure up, but I would also prefer to be Batman.  Some things just aren't going to happen.

Nick's picture
Nick on 18 Nov 2012 - 3:37pm #

Tell me who has a more impressive record in the top 5? You can't because there isn't one our record is similar to NDs a bunch of cupcakes, a game we should have lost but won in OT and a few good wins.  And getting shafted in the polls is definitely not "deserved" tell me what this team has done to deserve that?

Set your avi
Brutus on 18 Nov 2012 - 4:13pm #

I didn't say record, I said resume. And in the top 5, i think ND and Bama have better resumes, thus far. ND has Stanford and Oklahoma. Bama has LSU. I think Georgia is the team that's getting way too much credit, but  they still have the SEC championship to prove themselves.  Even so, they have a win over Flordia, which i personally believe is garbage, but it's still a better win than any of ours.

As for getting shafted in the polls, I really don't think we are.  At best, I think we could be ranked #3, ahead of Georgia.  I would not rank OSU above Bama or ND, largely because the B10 is awful. Like I said before, i think we could beat either team, but I also think we could lose. So, being one spot back is not really getting shafted.

Nick's picture
Nick on 18 Nov 2012 - 4:51pm #

We have Nebraska, Wisconsin and soon to be Michigan. Very similar to ND. Also Bama has one good win. So I wasn't referring to record because obviously we have a better record than everyone in the top 5 and the same as ND but our resumes are pretty the same.

If a Michigan win, which hasn't even happened yet and would drop them to 8-4, is going to be considered good for us, then why isn't it good for Bama, especially since for them it has already happened and was a complete thrashing?  We'll agree to disagree.  I actually don't think we're diagreeing about much.  Just different perceptions of whether we're being disrespected in the polls.

Michigan is better than that first game where they were missing a few players

Why is Florida garbage?  They had a couple of close games against inferior opponents, but so have we.  Florida has a more impressive resume than Bama in my opinion.  They have beat A&M, LSU, and South Carolina and if they survive with only 1 loss they will have beat another great team in FSU.  So they already have 3 quality wins, and lost to the number 3 team.

Yeah, garbage is kind of a strong word.  I guess I'm just bitter that they haven't been penalized for their miserable performances (Mizzou, LA Lafayette) whereas we always do.  I definitely agree that the have a better resume than us.

I think they have a better resume than Alabama, especially if they were to beat FSU next week.

For us to have any shot at the AP title--aside from the obvious things happening like Notre Dame losing at some point--it's probably going to be necessary to really pound Michigan as well, since they're our only point of comparison with Alabama.

Bottom line, though, is that with the biases of some of the southern voters at work, I don't think there's any way a poll championship can ever happen. I'm sure some of them are fair, but I have little doubt most see themselves as happy SEC propagandists. We're already the first undefeated team from a BCS conference in the BCS era to be ranked behind any one-loss team this late in the season. That doesn't happen in a world where the B1G gets any respect.

OSU is going to pound Michelin. My prediction: 35-10.

The UM D looked real weak to me vs. Iowa last Saturday. I don't think UM's D is even close to Wisconsin's. Braxton and El Guapo are going to run all over them.

I would really like to see another Corey Brown punt return or kickoff return for 6 to set the tone. Michelin ain't going to know what hit them. There's going to be blood on the field. Wolverine blood.

IMO no they dont.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
