PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Isn't the Texas team filled with Canadians?
On the surface this looks like a terrible loss, but when you think about it, it's not quite as bad. Chaminade University is in Hawaii, so it's pretty much a home game for them. Texas traveled across time zones and may have been looking at the trip as more of a vacation than a basketball tournament. Chaminade has played well in past Maui Invitationals, last year they beat Oklahoma and played Sparty tough (lost by 8), but then proceeded to lose to teams like Seattle Pacific, Grand Canyon(?) and Dixie State (twice!). I mean with the talent Texas is able to recruit, there is no excuse for them to lose a game like this, but it's not quite as bad as it appears.
On a sidenote, Chaminade's nickname (Silverswords) is awesome.
Worst college basketball loss vivid to me is when my D3 Battling Bishops went to Ohio University and knocked off the Bobcats. I believe this was 1988 and OWU went on to win the D3 national title that year.
They were kind of loaded. Scott Tedder was their star play and he had originally commited to Kentucky IIRC. Lee Rowlinson, 6'10" center, played professionally in Europe for years after graduating from OWU. Sandbaggers.
Bonus trivia: Tedder was also Michael Jordan's roommate for the White Sox minor league team.
Yep, excellent recall
Chaminade pulling off an upset in Maui...where have we seen that before?
Class of 2010.
Ralph Sampson dislikes this.
Texas staring PG, Myck Kabongo--arguably their best player--had to sit for the game because of his contact with Lebron James' agent. With Kabongo, Texas doesn't lose this game. But Texas basketball does stink and needs to replace coach Rick Barnes.
