PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
One vote away? That surprises me!
I wasn't expecting this at all. Not this season. I hate to "what if" this already, but imagine he's able to pull it off this year? He could have two shots at a repeat!!! Sick.
Pretty sweet that his names in the mix, but I just don't see it with the passing game needing as much work as it does.
In any case...Go Bucks! Go Miller!
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
The only thing the passing game needs is Devin Smith to hold onto the ball.
Agreed - at least on the implied part that Braxton is throwing the ball better. He's had some remarkable throws, actually. His completion percentage is fairly decent. And last year (and even sometimes during Pryor years), I would have gladly taken 180 passign yards/game!
Unreal...Here I thought it was Geno and the rest of the field... B-Rax is right there...if he can continue with his superior play, and WVU gets raked by the Big12...look out...we might just have a shot at #8....
Shocking! Never would have dreamed that Braxton would have been that close at this point.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
It's cool that he's in the mix..but no way in hell they give it to a guy who's team is on probation. Ill bet the farm that Geno Smith wins it.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I don't see why not. Andre Ware won the Heisman in 1989 when Houston was on probation/bowl ban.
While Geno will probably win the award, it won't be because OSU is on probation. They vote on the award before the post season so all teams will have only played 12 games. Still Geno wins because his numbers are outrageous.
Do you think we have to stay unbeaten for him to win it though? He is playing at another level than most on the field.
Wherever you are, there you be!
How come? Baylor wasn't undefeated last year. But RGIII lit Baylor up. I see that happening with the Bucks to some degree. Braxton is singlehandedly (almost) leading a very dynamic offense (that was NOT AT ALL dynamic last year). And the Buckeyes are turning things around from their worst season in decades. The only thing that hasn't turned around yet is the Defense, which Braxton is obviously not on.
Geno Smith will face more D's as good as TT (e.g. Oklahoma) too.
I like Braxton's chances. If he slips up pretty badly one game, though, he could fall out. But he means a ridiculous amount to OSU. But I don't think OSU necessarily has to be undefeated.
In my best Skip Bayless impression:
"ALL HE DOES IS WIN!"
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Geno's #'s are unreal. He'll walk away with it barring injury.
Another bad game by Geno combined with Braxton continuing to do what he's doing & WINNING OUT...and he has a very legit shot at the Heisman. 2 more bad games by Geno - Braxton wins.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
And Braxton can't have a bad game? The dude looks like he's going to be injured eveygame.
No - I don't believe Braxton can have even one bad game & win the Heisman given the fact that OSU is on probation, and there other guys pretty close to Braxton who would move right up after a bad game...
Edit: regardless - I'm actually in agreement with you by & large on Geno - he would have to sh#t the bed pretty good for Braxton to have a shot....but it could happen.
I think Geno will rebound from last week's performance. If Braxton stays healthy, he'll at least be invited to New York.
Anyone have any thoughts on why the Heisman rarely translates to NFL success?
I don't think it's a written science or anything but a lot of hesiman winners are usually system type players. Bush, Newton, Bradford, and RG3 seem to be holding their own in the league right now though.
Here's to hoping Geno shats the bed and Braxton, and the Buckeyes, win out in convincing fashion. Having the Heisman winner back for his Junior year does nothing but help the Bucks!
Geno has some real RGIII stuff going on right now, and is in a part of the country (and plays in a part of a country) that almost every voter can see. With that said, I don't know how many Heisman winners have really bad losses on their resume. Of course, Geno's team may have lost but he didn't play terribly in that game the way Luck did last year in the Oregon game that probably cost him the trophy.
If Brax keeps going over a hundred yards on the ground and has his hands in 3-5 TD's a game, he'll be a contender but I agree that this is Geno's to lose.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I honestly believe if our defense would start holding teams under 14 points and we can still put up over 40+ a game the national media would look twice at Braxton. If the Buckeyes were blowing people out it would be "sexier" to the voters.
Braxton "Heisman" Miller
You guys are pointing to ridiculous numbers, but if what happens at TTU is any indicator, the overall numbers won't be as ridiculous.... WVU still has to play Kansas St, TCU, Oklahoma, and @ Iowa St. That is the number 31, 15, 14, and 33 defenses in the country. Trust me, he will not put up the areana league numbers in all of these (though he will get a chance for a final impression by beating the crap out of Kansas). I think WVU looses at least 2 and probably 3 of those cause their defense is just so damn bad. Another repeat or two of TTU and it would allow someone else (like Braxton) to slide into that top slot.
Cause I couldn't go for three
Honestly its a pretty down year in terms of Heisman candidates. Sure Brax is the real deal but just knowing that Brax hasnt ever reached his climax and yet he's already a serious contender tells me its a pretty watered down Heisman pool this year. But like always i'll take it and wish Brax the best!!
^ I agree completely
