You would think humility might set in on a kid who has been basically booted from two of the greatest football programs in the country and ends up in the Sun Belt conference. But no.
Remember when Nick Saban said this about Duron:
"That guy refuses to buy in to what we teach and what we value to be succesful. He will not play for this football team. Period,"
My hunch (pure guess) is that Duron's (existentialist-like) attitude problem is almost akin to a drug addiction.
If so, then obivously he'd be in denial about it, but even when he did have moments of clarity (e.g., humility setting in or "getting it," perhaps in response to getting in trouble for the upteenth time), that clarity and momentary resolve to improve and escape the vicious pattern of self-destruction wouldn't last past the next time he was "tempted" to revert to his dysfunctional pattern.
Again, I'm guessing, but it seems like this kid is on the precipice: he might even see himself going over the edge, but not be able to stop himself. He's compelled to fail.
Duron should just drop out, play in the CFL for a year and then go into next year's draft.....he honestly is not cut out for this and if his attitude doesn't change I'm not sure he'd even get drafted....it's one thing if "school isn't for him" as not everyone is a student....but his lack of commitment to the team and buying into that joint effort is what boggles my mind
I kind of agree, but I think to have any shot at all he needs the support network that a university can provide. In the pros no one is looking out for you, and he is already struggling enough while he has some semblance of a support network.
You would have to seriously question his ability to be a teammate at any level. Especially as a pro. I feel for his father. It has to be tough for him to deal with.
I don't want to get into a debate about parenting or anything like that, but I wonder about Cris and Duron's relationship and how much influence he has on his son's life. Its obvious Duron has a major attitude problem and his love for "the reefer" has been documented.
I know a parent can do everything for a kid and they can still turn out with issues. And I'm not saying Cris is to blame for Duron's problems, cause I don't know. I just wonder if Cris allowed his son to grow up with a sense of entitlement and now Duron is finding out the hard way that talent and your family name can only get you so far in life.
I know Cris Carter is popular around these parts, but I'll say one thing and leave it at that: from everyone I've talked to, he is part of the problem. He's a Buckeye, but let's not forget he was a prima donna in Columbus and lost his eligibility by hiring an agent.
Agreed that he may not have been the best role model. But he still put in his work and was a very good to great NFL reciever. I would hope that he could have at least taught his kid how to navigate the system. No one expects Duron to win a Nobel, but put down the xbox for 10 minutes to go to class...
Agree that the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree in this case. Cris Carter definitely developed a good deal of maturity after going pro. I've liked a lot of the things he has had to say since retirement. But his decisions as a collegiate player left a lot to be desired.
He actually didn't mature right away once he went pro. It took him several years in the league before he did. He had a well-documented drug problem when he was with the Eagles and butted heads with HC Buddy Ryan frequently.
It sounds to me like he just doesn't want to play football. As simple as that. In just about every sport at that level you have to be committed mentally and physically. I just don't think he has it in him.
its football, dont think it should be equated to something as big as life but I see your point. I honestly don't think anybody over the age of 18 should rely on their parents for motivation to make themselves into something... Duron is an absolute moron, let him waste his opportunities (this is his 4th one) and itll hit him one day when he is sat in his parents house still at 40 years old talking to people about his dad and what he used to be like (in high school)
I'm not just concerned with football. I mean, if he gets kicked off of this team, then there's probably no chance of ever playing in the NFL.
My thought is that, this is his 4th school. It sounded like his problems were mostly academic, although now I'm seeing that he just doesn't get along with the football staff. On the academic side though, he doesn't seem to be getting an education. He doesn't appear to take orders from his boss (coach). None of this sounds like he will find a job without using his father's name. That's why I'm saying that it's about his life.
starting to wonder if Cris had a talk with Coach Pelini and told him to have a short string with Duron at first, to teach him discipline & tough love, so Duron loses a bit of his arrogance. I don't know....maybe Cris isn't capable of that. But, it makes me wonder, because Cris was watching practice -- this could have been a concerted effort
i think duron is done with football. he's not ever going to get it on any level, anywhere. at this point I'm just sad that a kid with that much potential will never understand what he could've become
He should just stop with football. There is something fundamentally wrong with him that will never enable him to be a productive member of a football team even if he's the most talented player on that team.
Perhaps Duron should speak to Mo Clarett and ask him how much he regrets his attitude and well that attitude worked out for him. What a shame in both instances.

I always found it interesting how many people seem to expect Cris to be a good father just because he was a good football player for their team.

Please, Cris. Smack your son around and get his head on straight. If someone rides him hard enough, he might salvage a life.

agree with RKYLET83. He needs to decide for himself what he wants, and let his actions do the talking.
I guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
Who would have thought the Cris Carter's offspring is more entitled than he is? This kid needs a kick in the ass or two to set him straight.

In fairness to Duron Carter, fall camps are usually something you just sim through on EA Sports' NCAA Football 13 for Xbox.

good stuff right there
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
This just in: Duron Carter's favorite song is Afroman's "Because I Got High".
At least Afroman admits to his problem in the song. Duron is in extreme denial.

Duron has never put forth enough effort to actually listen to the song. He just likes the title.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. Duron Carter was likely a spoiled little kid, that never heard the word "no" from his parents.
