A great guest post by Coach Curtis Peterson regarding the ubiquity of 'Power' (aka 'Dave') in the spread offense. This is one of Urban Meyer's base plays so well worth reading.

It's hilarious that everyone knows that's what we called it. I miss the Dave tshirts.

When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."

Read this and several other articles on the subject. Dave is actually a good play but the thing that will be refreshing is that it will no longer be DAVE DAVE BAUSERBOMB/QB DRAW PUNT every series.

One thing I liked about Dave is when it worked and worked well it was like a giant FU to the oppenent. They knew it was coming, we knew it was coming and we did it anyways. Like a "Let our will be done!" kinda thing. But when it wasn't working.....ugh, it was miserable.

I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

It helped that it actually has a fair amount of big play potential. Catch a couple good blocks, make the safety miss, and it's off to the races. Think Beanie versus Michigan.

Well executed power football is a thing of beauty that is so often overlooked in today's game.

Every offense needs to have a good Dave play. Just don't run it like 20 effin times a game. Inside the 5, though, it gets hardrer to throw the ball and get it into space - same number of defenders, less field and all.

Yes, Tress' problem wasn't so much basing your offense around Dave (Power) but failing to have 'constraint' plays to prevent the defense from over playing the play. He leaned upon it too much.

Meyer definitely does not have that problem...

The fake Dave rollout with TP was under-utilized.

Oh man....that could have been a killer if used more. A TE Slip from that formation would be nice too. Have a TE 'crack' down on an LB (some of the best in the NFL will go as far as going to the ground to chop a defender to sell a fake) then drag across running with Pryor to the sideline. If its open toss it, if not you have another blocker to lead TP up field against the grain...man if only.

4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
