this is fucking absurd. never, ever, could you rationalize a single decision made by anyone involved in this scandal. not one, for more than a decade. the more I think about this the angrier I get.
But Paterno deserved that pay raise right? What a dick. He knew he would be forced to resign or fired soon enough so he raped the school for a few million extra bucks in exchange for a "promise to retire".
Found this interesting note from 2011 B1G Media Days from Rittenberg's summary of the goings on.
4. JoePa looking good, feeling good: After a shaky media days appearance in 2010, Penn State coach Joe Paterno looked and sounded much better this year. The 84-year-old made a Socrates reference, played dumb about his contract situation, expressed an interest in calling plays this season and talked about coaching 4-5 more years. Other than not knowing the taunting rule, Paterno had an excellent showing in Chicago.
Guess Paterno wasn't sure if he would be making 2 or 3 times his salary in his final year before his planned "retirement".

I'm just amazed that the board has stated no one is stepping down. really. REALLY? really...

Those arrogant a-holes. I hope the DOE and the NCAA comes down on them hard.
