UCLA is putting together a nice team.  Lyons, the guard from Xavier is talking about transferring out, and UCLA looks like a strong contender.  With Parker, Muhammed, and a couple of other good recruits and a transfer like Lyons who is a good player and will be able to use the Russell Wilson rule to play next year, UCLA may not be such a slouch next year.

Surprise pick imo gl to him though. I think we have a lot to look forward to with Williams, Ross, Thomas and Ravenel up front.

Ross is a guard, not likely to play down low.

Gaurd or not if you are 6-6+ you are probably going to be playing forward and be spending some time in the painted area and counted on for rebounding.

Diebs was 6'6, and he didn't play forward. I don't think he'll be spending too much time at the 4, and if he does, it would be as as strech-4 (think most of Wisconsin's 4's). He has a good handle and shot for his size, and would cause match-up problems for other team. However, I don't know if Coach Matta will keep DT at the 4, or move him to the 3. Either way, I think Ross would have to be prepared to play both.

Diebs has no vertical and is totally different than Ross (don't get me wrong I loved diebs).

Totally agree. I just wanted to point out height isn't the deciding factor to what positions someone will play.

Ross is a guard. He will play guard, not forward. Height has nothing to do with it in college.

UCLA hired Parker's old AAU coach and Parker said his cousin is married to one of their assistants as well (could be same coach), plus he's buddies with Kyle Anderson and Shabaz Muhammad. This will be a situation for Ben Howland where if UCLA is not good next year, he will have no excuses. Not to mention Anderson, Muhammad and Parker are probably all eyeying one and done years.

He probably thinks he has a better shot of finding Eva Longoria in Hollywood.

Good riddance. His theatrics were getting kind of annoying after a while, and I'm kind of glad he's not with us. I would like to get Hood, though.

LadyBuck, you're one of my favorite posters here, but you just said a pretty big pet peeve of mine when it comes to college recruiting :/

I'm not usually like this with recruits, but I've been following his recruitment since this fall, and some of the things he's said and done don't sit well with me. Don't get me wrong, I wish him the best of luck at UCLA, and hopefully it's a better fit for him, but I'm not all that upset he didn't pick us.

One thing is that he said he was worried that Ohio State would make him lose weight. No offense to him, but he can stand to lose fat and gain muscle -just like most people, really. The fact that he's worried about something like getting into the proper condition to play competitively on our team in the Big Ten worries me. Why wouldn't he want to do what it takes to play and win? I value the work ethic that Coach Matta has instilled here, and I don't want a single player causing trouble due to his unwillingness to work just as hard as everyone else.

Secondly, he seems to have an elitest attitude. He things that he's the shiz, and appears to be the kind of player that, if he doesn't get his playing time, he'll throw a fit. I think this is one of the best ways to disrupt team chemistry, no matter what. He may've been good enough to come in and make a splash, but at the same time, he could very well not have that big of an impact. I would rather not have "me-first" attitude from a big who isn't willing to work.

From what I've seen, he's a work in progress. He has some nice moves, but isn't as effective as he's hyped. He is a good bigman, there's no question about it, but I don't think he's as good as he precieves he is, which coudl be trouble. At this point, I like the team we have coming in, I think they'll work well together, and his attitude and actions recently (since mid to late February), have made me cool off of him.

I didn't mean to come off negative or bashing, but he's drawn this out for a while now, and made a production. It's good to know where he's going. Good luck to Parker, and best of luck unless he's playing us.

I'm glad he's not with us because I want Amir to get all the minutes. Happy?

"Ohio State, it doesn't get no better for a big man there. But I just thought I would have to work harder at UCLA and would probably come in with more of a chip on my shoulder."

interesting quote from Tony Parker. I'm not sure what Thad & the coaching staff told him, or Ben Howland & his people...but you wouldn't have just had it handed to you at OSU, Tony.

He is right that OSU is a great place for a big man, though.
