Horrible. I thought they had the Seminole guy riding the horse? wouldn't he be the mascot? Maybe this is just for Baseball and hoops or something.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

I know the Chief Oescecola was getting them in hot water. For a while now, the NCAA has asked that they change their mascot to something inoffensive to Native Americans. Personally, I didn't think the 'Noles' mascot was that much of a cruel caricature--I mean any team with the name "Redskins" could be seen as a lot more inflammitory than them.

FWIW, FSU always countered that they had the Seminole Tribe's blessing. But, I think a stipulation is that they couldn't hold any NCAA postseason events in Tallahasee.

Some interesting nuggets, including the company that came up with the design, but it also quotes their marketing guy as saying this is the "Kid's Club" mascot and, "It also allows us to participate in some opportunities that were not appropriate for the distinguished symbol of Osceola and Renegade." The conspiracy theorist in me suspects this is the initial step toward distancing from Osceola.

I thought FSU got a pass on their mascot due to the Seminole nation backing them? I'm in no way a noles fan but never thought they were demeaning towards the tribe and always took it as a way of honoring them.

@Hodge Agree %100. Calling a Native American a redskin is about the same as using the N word. I've met a few Native Americans years ago, they said they don't mind being called Indians though. I served with a Native American, he basically told me the same thing.
