"I was mad at myself, mad at the system, mad at how things went. If it wasn’t for them keeping me calm on a daily basis, I don’t know how things would have ended up." (dispatch.com)
Im a big fan of this kid. I know that a lot of other people may disagree - but I followed his situation closely this year. Some say he did some dumb things (sold his own stuff & got paid more for jobs than should have????) I say he made a few mistakes. Others have done much much worse. He got caught. Either way I'm rooting for this kid for as long as he's around at the next level...
I'm glad he used the situation in a positive way for himself, and hope what happened this season doesn't ruin his chances of success in the NFL. To me, the fact that he stayed on the team despite only getting to play 3 games at the end of the year said a lot before even seeing thsi article. I imagine most kids would've said "screw it" and not even bothered.
Class of 2010. 5 years, 2 degrees, 1 love - Go Bucks!
I've always felt that Posey paid much more of a price that he should have had to. By all accounts, DeVier was a tremendous leader to the team in the weight room and in practices while he was serving his suspension(s), as this story confirms. Wish him nothing but the best at the next level.
This article was long overdue. I know DeVier. He is a tremendous person, as are his mother and brother Julian. He made a mistake before his sophomore season. Then he was thrown under the bus after Gene Smith refused to defend him through Union-payscale-gate.
Having witnessed DeVier's work ethic first-hand, I have the utmost confidence that he is going to do VERY well in the combine. A lot of football players who have already signed scholarships won't run track in the spring of their senior year so as to focus more on getting in "football shape" as opposed to "track shape" as well as to enjoy some free time during the final months of their high school lives. DeVier was the opposite. He's so competitive. He came out in March after basketball season his senior year, already 10 weeks behind in training when compared to the other sprinters. He worked his ass off, and he put on a clinic at the Track and Field State Championship meet in June, and he's really not even a pure sprinter a la Devin Smith. He's going to do just fine this weekend at the combine.
