Gag, seeing him in those colors is not cool.  Good for Troy though.

alright! I'm a Steelers fan, live in Pgh. & know a few people in the org. --- and I swear to you --- I sent somebody I know within the organization a heads-up to sign Troy Smith. My point was that he was a much better back-up choice than Charlie Batch.

And....did you know that rookie QB making their first start against a Dick LeBeau-coached Steelers defense are 1-13. Guess who that 1 is? ... you got it --- Troy Smith

Hey now.  You can't put that one on DLB, it was the Raven D that won that game.

A native Clevelander who gets drafted by the Ravens and later winds up with the Steelers? What's next, a job on Hoke's staff after he retires?

hey, I think Chuck Heater played at scUM ... & he may be OSU's next DB coach ....

what a crazy mixed-up world we live in.

Heater is solid, though --- he'll be an FBS head coach in 3-5 years.

question -- what's up with Brian Robiskie?

I thought he would be solid in the NFL...he's smart, runs great routes, has great hands, and decent speed. I thought he was starting to come on at the end of his 2nd year in CLE., but they released him and JAX. signed him -- don't think he saw any action, though.

I'm always rooting for the former Buckeyes in the NFL....hope Robo catches on somewhere.

robo apparently was playing injured at CLE and we didnt find out until JAC signed him... never played the rest of the year because of injuries, but he's still under contract i believe

The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.

Glad to see one of my fav Buckeyes catch on somewhere. Maybe Rapelessburger will get hurt bad enough one of theses seasons and Troy will see some PT.

Troy Smith is the best QB in OSU history, and maybe the had the best season ('06) by a QB in Big Ten history. He is the only true QB in the history of the Big Ten to win the Heisman, surprisingly.

No way. Kern, and Schlichter are above him.

Agree to disagree. That 2006 season - he was near perfect.

Would you say that if he had played up to his standard against Florida?

"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

If he showed up against Florida and played how he had all season, then yes most likely I would. Instead he and the O-line all came in as overweight slobs and got hammered. He didn't show up to play when it mattered most. Kern did, and Schlichter put up phenominal numbers which we will most likely never see from another OSU QB.

No doubt Kern is the best QB ever at OSU.

(Attitude aside), if only Santonio were still there....

I am ridiculously happy for Troy. Didnt think he got a fair shot in SanFran or Baltimore.  Hopefully his full potential is developed.

Buckeye born and bred. Buckeye til I'm dead.

I can't remember if it was a comment I read here or another blog, but someone was alluding to a rumor that Troy is a bit of a locker-room cancer/prima donna, especially after his time with San Francisco.

I don't think he got a fair shake in SF, but can anyone explain last year? How do you go from a QB who started a handful of games in the NFL to third string on a UFL team behind Eric Crouch and Jeremiah Masoli?

Smith worked out with the Dolphins but wasn't offered a contract. Have you looked at the Dolphin's QB rotation? Henne, Losman and Matt Moore. Henne couldn't hit the ocean from the beach. Losman was so bad the Bills let him go (he played the following season in the UFL). Moore lost the Panther's job to Jimmy Clausen.

I've never thought Troy Smith was terrible (he did make some terrible reads and throws in the later games in SF, though), but how he went a year (in what should be his prime) not on an NFL roster confuses me to no end.

Good or him..couldn't be with a better organization besides possibly the patriots or packers.
