Eleven Warriors crew: I absolutely commend your coverage of this news so far. We know how Penn State fans/blogs would act if it was us in their shoes right now, but we're simply better than that. Please continue this outstanding behavior.

BuckeyeChief's picture

Yep. Absolutely not going to BSD to run my mouth; a very bad situation, no joking matter.

If we don't rub it in their faces, we can just add that to the list of things we are better at: class.

I am a child abuse investigator for the State of Florida.  I just read the Atty General documents as they relate to the indictments. They are very graphic in their detail, so when I say read them at your own discretion, I mean it.  I am not sure JoePa is in the clear on this one.  If I read it right, he was advised of an incident witnessed by a Grad Asst of intercourse b/t Sandusky and and a 10 year old boy WHICH WAS NEVER REPORTED TO ANY AUTHORITIES.  It is the very same incident Shultz and Curley are being charged with regarding failure to report.  There is also information in the documents which strongly suggest campus police assisted in minimizing a separate incident (the paperwork outlines specific allegations to 7 or 8 different victims who are now adults and making statements regarding their abuse).

If you can stomach the read, you may find yourselves equally disgusted by what looks to be a significant lapse in judgement by many different people at PSU.

A lapse in judgment is not reporting the sale of personal items for tattoo's.  Not reporting sexual abuse of children is criminal and indefensible.  All responsible belong in jail.

I applaud you for the work you do. I couldn't, but am grateful for people like you who do. Thank you

Pam, how ya doing?

Trying to be judicious with the lapse in judgememt statement--I have learned not to rush to judgememt. Having said that, in the state of Florida, EVERY citizen is a mandated reporter of SUSPECTED abuse, meaning u don't have to have witnessed it firsthand or even have firsthand knowledge, only a REASONABLE suspicion something MAY have occured. Some professions are contingent on making reports to the abuse hotline and can/will lose their jobs in ADDITION to criminal sanctions all parties are subject to. Long story short, in my state, Joe Paterno would not get a pass. Alerting your superior to a staff member witnessing the sodomizing of a ten year old boy requires a bit more diligence.

I did some trolling over at BSD; those guys are pretty disgusted.

This is the case in Ohio as well.

Regardless of their internet fanbase, (all the actual fans I know are really cool people), I have alot of respect for JoePa and would HATE to see him drug down because of this.

At the same time, *glass houses*, amiright?

Glass houses FOR SURE.

Angel, I'll take your word for it; thank your for what you do. I tried to be a Drug and Alcohol counselor once upon a time, but it didn't happen.

I was wondering the same thing. I haven't read the report (and will probably not read it) but the reports are that JoePa reported it to the athletic department but not the authorities. This could be bad news for him depending on the law at the time/ statute of limitations.

This is looking really, really bad. Horrible. Of all the crimes, this one burns me most. Disgusting.  PSU annoys me; but the kids, players, alums, and fans don't deserve the stink this has created for the university. Unbelievable this scum-bag seems to have been "protected" by some. This guy needs to jump in a tire fire for the good of humanity.

This is awful....don't even know what to say.

It'll be interesting to see how the sports media handles this.

Words are a challenge to express the anger i feel about this. Just thinking about the victims, anybody(including joepa) who failed to report this, not to compliance, not to their superior, but to the authorities, (the freaking Pennsylvania state governor if needs be), deserves to be sentenced. They denied these little kids justice by allowing an obvious cover up attempt by the high ranking officials at penn state. If any remaining members from of the staff at that time, with knowledge are not totally disposed of by the university, i will never support penn state again, i dont care if they're in the national championship against florida, alabama, LSU, or anyone else. If this happened at Ohio State, I would feel the same way, no exceptions.  Penn State didn't do this, the envolved staff members did. As long as they deal with this and rid themselves of the scum, I wont hold any bad feelings(atleast due to these incodences) against them.

I teach in a high school in PA and had a colleague fired because they did not report suspected sexual abuse (which was later confirmed). All teachers and coaches are mandatory reporters in PA, and all of the PSU officials, including JoePa should go down for this. This is just HORRIBLE! I feel so bad for these kids.

So apparently the GA who reported it to Paterno is rumored to be Mike McQueary. Former PSU Quarterback and current Wide Receiver Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, Mike McQueary.

I have a feeling that others beyond PSU president Graham Spanier, PSU AD Tim Curley, and PSU VP for Finance and Business Gary Schultz, are going to be tainted by this scandal.

M1EK was banned in Sept I think. I had no idea and saw some comments from him on OTE. So I started giving him shit and he totally let me have it.

The comments I've read so far on black shoe diaries is kinda disgusting, not as disgusting as the acts though. A lot of people are trying to say JoePa has no responsibility in this because he reported it to the university, and that he and the university might have been open to a false accusation lawsuit if it wasn't true and it was reported to the authorities. The laws MAY be different (though I doubt it, I think they are pretty standard across the country) but here in Ohio if you suspect any child abuse you CANNOT have a false accusation suit. Also, teachers and coaches MUST report. Report to THE AUTHORITIES, not to the university. JoePa didn't report this to the authorities so by Ohio standards he should be brought before the grand jury, also the Grad. Assistant.

you're absolutely right imo. but if shultz and curly would have reacted correctly, then this wouldn't have mattered anyway. but it seems extremely obvious that these two, maybe even spanier, tried to cover this up. no way joepa didn't realise that at some point, and because he didn't push the issue by going to child social services, and/or authorities when it the coverup became obvious, that's where he failed. this allowed sandusky more time to assault more children... this is not only damaging to penn state's legacy, but the b10 as well... i wasn't old enough to witness the SMU death penalty but i remember reading about it leading to the collapse of the entire conference. i doubt this will collapse the b10 but certainly wont help by weakening an already struggling b10 this year...

GlueFingers Lavelli's picture

Now I'm beginning to wonder why JoePa poo'd his pants on our sidelines in 06'.   I keed I keed. Sandusky was gone then.

I don't get how something like this would get swept under the rug. Who would risk their good name to cover something like this?

One question: has there been any coverage of this on ESPiN?

Inní mér syngur vitleysingur

22buckeyebrown's picture

yes, but they aren't getting very detailed. i guess to be expected...

faux_maestro's picture

Not detailed is probably a good thing. But can we, for just a minute, imagine what would be said on all of the ESPiN platforms if this had happened here? I mean they made a big deal out of a rigged raffle at an OSU football camp.

Inní mér syngur vitleysingur

22buckeyebrown's picture

oh, OSU would be ALL over sportcenter for a WHILE...

M tots's picture

Hearing that Curley and Schultz have stepped down, any truth to this?

GlueFingers Lavelli's picture

Not sure, No way this regime survives this. If Paterno was unaware, I feel bad if his legacy is tarnished for this. On the other hand, If he covered anything up at all, He'll be almost as guilty as Sandusky.

And in 2002, Kelly said, a graduate assistant saw Sandusky sexually assault a naked boy, estimated to be about 10 years old, in a team locker room shower. The grad student and his father reported what he saw to Paterno, who immediately told Curley, prosecutors said.

Curley and Schultz met with the graduate assistant about a week and a half later, Kelly said.

"Despite a powerful eyewitness statement about the sexual assault of a child, this incident was not reported to any law enforcement or child protective agency, as required by Pennsylvania law," Kelly said.

These statements are pretty incriminating of Paterno himself, considering it is Pennsylvania law to report suspected abuse.
