I got the sense from Spielman carrying on and on about Fickell during the game that he knew something we didn't about Fickell's coaching future. It sounded very much like a eulogy. Then Fickell (or Fick for us girly dudes) getting emotional during the press conference sort of seemed like he was saying goodbye. The Akron firing just solidifies my suspicions. I was really holding out hope that Fickell would stay on as an assistant head coach, but that no longer seems likely. I don't want to see him leave but I will remain a big fan wherever he ends up.
According to the same site that posted the Mike Stoops as DC rumor, Akron is targeting Tressel:

Yeah, a crack pipe dream. I can't imagine Tressel would take that job. Usually you'd coach at Akron first then move on to Ohio State, not the other way around (exception being Luke Fickell, of course, given the circumstances).
Class of 2010.
Not only that, but Tressel is most likely facing a show cause from the NCAA. If that happens, he'll be unable to coach at the college level for a few years.
Imagine Tressel and Bolls coaching Akron, LOL.

I think that shows that even he knows Meyer is OSU's next coach. The last thing he wants to do is lead the Buckeyes out of the tunnel.
