You're kidding right Gee?

I hope there was a laugh that came out of his mouth after he said that quote.

Like I've said, they're all in bed together.  The most effective way to get rid of ants is to target the colony.

Hopefully Gee is implying that they're backing up Gene as much as they backed up Tress. Smith can't leave soon enough.

I think you're right. This does echo the tone of previous comments made about Tressel - and the school's already begun the process of rehabilitating his image/legacy. Why? It's smart business. It clears the path to future deals, mutually beneficial to both tOSU and Tressel.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Board of Trustees has already worked out exit strategies with Gene and G2. TOSU will find a way to manage this crisis, at a minimum cost in market value.

This isn't about the public or PR, it's about the NCAA. I still believe Smith knows more about how to deal with this better than most anyone in the country.

And honestly, do you expect Gee to say anything different? Tame the outrage a bit.

I like Gee as a person, I really do, and I appreciate the work he has done to raise the academic and research profile of the university during his two stints at tOSU.  As such, I will never advocate for his firing because of athletics stuff; after all, universities exist for education and research, not football (a concept those in the SEC outside Nashville, Gainesville and Athens...basically Paul Finebaum's primary audience, and Finebaum himself...will never understand).

However, I just wish he would STFU regarding athletics.  His chronic foot-in-mouth disease just makes him & the university look foolish.  Just stop already.  Craft a carefully worded press release and leave it at that.  Continue to publicly support your AD even (so long as you're working behind the scenes to cut him loose).  But please, I beg you:  Just. Shut. Up.
