"The thing historians used to call southern exceptionalism — and its first cousin on its mother's side, southern solidarity — has been channeled into a football fight song." (Grantland)
I think the article makes a real good point... A&M won't be culturally accepted in the SEC. They're "SECede"ing to get away from a conference where they aren't viewed as equals (by Texas), only to join a conference where they won't be viewed as equals (by anyone). Something tells me they may regret this move in 4 years or so.
I made this statement on this website many many months ago. I agree whole heartedly with the author. After being defeated in the Civil War, there has been a collective grudge against everyone not belonging to the confederacy. Winning in Football somehow vindicates them, and alleviates their feeling of defeat in the most deadly war ever fought on US soil.
I proudly tell people I meet that I am from the great state of Ohio. I get, "Oh, you are wun dem Yankees" in reply. I am tired of explaining the concept of the original 13 colonies to them. I get the same look from them that I get when I try to explain the rules of Football to my wife. <Eye's rolled and looking upward, slightly to the left with their jaws held slack.>
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Ohioans, like Grant, Sheridan and Sherman kicked the SEC around in 1865 and OSU did it last year, without oversigning about a billion players. That's the difference in that league and other Mr. Muschamp. You guys cut players with impugnity. Other conferences don't and it makes a difference.

Duh.
The SEC chant is nothing more than shouting, through your tobacco stained teeth, CSA!!
To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.
With a rich history of racism and low academic standards, why not celebrate collectively
Fundamentals are a crutch for the talentless.

And only did so after getting his ass kicked in T-Town by USC who had black players.
Just read in an Uncle John's Bathroom Reader this morning that Alabama offers a course on the social impact of The Dukes of Hazard.
