Grizzlies Inexplicably Ink Conley To 5 Year, $45 Mil Extension

Sure he's off to a hot start, but anyone who studies advanced stats or, well, has seen the Grizzlies play extensively in the last 2.5 years has to be scratching their heads. Congrats are in order though; drinks on Mike.

I don't think it's inexplicable. Conley is playing a lot better lately and seems to mesh well with Mayo and Gay. He's still very young and starting over at PG when they have much bigger needs inside probably don't seem very appealing.

That does seem like a lot of money for a player that can't shoot, but I think he is becoming a poor man's Rondo and will continue to improve.

He can't shoot, handle, or create. AND HE'S MAKING $10 MILLION LESS THAN RONDO OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS.

I'll forever love MC2 for what he helped contribute to in C-Bus, but it's instantaneously the worst contract in the league and a litmus test for the forthcoming lockout (which ownership just bombed horribly).

No, no, no.

Darko Milichic has by far the worst contract in the league. Conley's isn't even close to as bad as his.

It really isn't. Point guards who can't create their own shot, split defenders effectively, or generate opportunities for their own teammates are a dime a dozen. Warm body bigs who can put up 12 PER are far less so. Hell, Darko is a BARGAIN compared to Conley's absurd deal.

Something tells me you haven't seen or followed the career of Darko... He can't put up twelve per... Nothing even remotely close either. Sure he's a "warm big body", but so are Kwame Brown & Hasheem Thabeet.

He's avg 15 pts 8 assits and 3.6 steal a game. Can't create? He leads the league in steals and Rondo can't shoot either.

Conley is the 8th best player on the Grizzlies; those stats are through THREE games. RFA him and make him earn it. The deal is the reason why there won't be an NBA season next year.

16pt 8ast 3 steals 3-4 from 3pt range(maybe he can shoot) vs the lakers If he's the 8th best players on the grizz they are going to win the title this year.

Rondo is also 12 times better at being a point guard than Conley. AT LEAST 12 times.

Competent point guards are hard to find...cha-ching.

It would be cool if 11W would stop directing traffic to ESPN. I hate those guys...and there are better sources for almost every story that doesn't involve Tebow.

According to the article, Conley has two agents, one of whom is presumably more experienced than Conley Sr.

I think Conley's mojo started happening last year after the All-Star game and has continued on thus far. Don't look now, but that Grizzlies team has a great nucleus with Randolph, Gay, Mayo, young Gasol and Conley. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a playoff run.

my dream world: NFL does not exist except in blooper reels and barry sanders highlights, the NBA season is not talked about or reported on until the playoffs, college and pro hockey replaces both of these on tv. college football is the only thing reported on/shown on espn from friday through monday.

full disclosure: i'm a bengals and cavs "fan"

Don't think I could stand the hockey. Though I'd imagine I would prefer that over baseball. Through everything into oblivion, saving only college football and March Madness!
