Green-Beckham was the #1 rated recruit coming out of Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri in 2011, it was pretty surprising that he chose Missouri and now a much more surprising piece of news has just been released, and that is that he has been released.

It seemed to many that he would be the #1 receiver this year for Missouri and now that has gone down the toilet and into the sewers. He is a very talented young man and I hope that he gets his life turned around, but the three strikes and your out rule apparently still applies at Missouri. Many of their fans are probably upset and angry, however, in my opinion, it is the right thing to do, you can't allow certain players to be above the law no matter how talented they are.

I don't know all of the details yet, I would think that he would be able to transfer to another Division 1-A school since he got released and is not transferring. I can guarantee that, even with his legal troubles, he will get plenty of offers from other big time schools because he is that good. And no matter where he goes after this, I hope that he gets his head straightened out and that he can eventually make his life a success no matter what he decides to do.

This has been your local 11W blog news from that random guy with the really long username. Thanks for reading.

Obviously more going than has been reported yet. It'll be interesting to see what the full story is.

He chose Mizzou because it was close to home.  So he could show up at Iowa or Illinois, conceivably?

Dantonio and Michigan State would be happy to have him.

Buckeyevstheworld's picture

That depends on how good his suplexing skills are.

Bungles would have no problem drafting him

"Text messages from Green-Beckham’s girlfriend in subsequent days asked the victims to refrain from pursuing charges. One message read, “football is really all he has going for him and pressing charges would ruin it for him completely.”"

My guess is that LSU will take a team vote and allow him on the team...

He's not going to be charged.  Does that change anyone's opinion of him?

I say bring him, IIRC, we were in his top five, no?

I disagree, I don't want him on our team. First off, this isn't his first time being in trouble and probably will not be his last.  Secondly, Urban Meyer disciplined Hyde even after he wasn't charged so I don't think Meyer wants the headache.  And last, he's a great player and is hard to match that skill, but I don't think we need him with the guys we have brought in.

If I could guarantee that he  was the missing piece to a National title it might be an interesting risk/reward scenario. He would be under a microscope from jump street anyways so whoever lands the kid its probably going to work out for them. Hope to God it isn't MSU or Wisky or somebody we might play.

I speak the truth but I guess that's a foreign language to yall.~~Lil Wayne

He definitely would have put Ohio State over the top last year. He's basically what we're hoping Jeff Greene will be.

So you're saying he would have been our 1st 2 way player since Chris Gamble because no way one offensive player could help that secondary.

You're telling me Ohio State couldn't have used a big WR with speed against MSU?

In all fairness, Miller (and I love Miller as a Buckeye) tends to miss reads and predetermine pitches and throws. Not say I could do even 25% of the things he does at QB.

southbay's picture

He won't be a Buckeye, but there are perhaps other coaches in the B1G who would give their left nut for a WR that talented.  If you can keep him on the field.

It just occurred to me, you have to read the post to find out if DGB was released by the University of Missouri, or by the police lol.

All this talk about where he's transferring to assumes he's going to want to do something in 2015 other than go to the NFL. Which I doubt.

I'm surprised. Apparently Missouri isn't yet completely aware that it's in the SEC, where this sort of thing is typically tolerated from star players.

Good point, if he's not to young to be eligible for the NFL, then he will fit right in.

cinserious's picture

He should be eligible for the draft this year but probably wants to hone his skills some more. I don't see him transferring, sitting out a year, and playing one more year of college ball. If he does get to play in '14 then he won't be Buckeye bound. His troubles are counter-productive to what Urban is building and we have Mike Thomas, Jeff Greene, Corey Smith, Jonnie Dixon, and a host of others to lift our receiving game off the ground.

Why in the hell is it so damn hard to stay out of trouble for some of these guys. Shit, you're a star D1 player, full ride, meals, books, housing, stipends, etc, ... just keep your nose clean for 3 years and work hard. Then, boom...you're a surefire multimillionaire.

Nobody put a gun to this thug's head and made him commit these crimes. I have no sympathy for idiots like this, especially when they're given elite God-given athletic ability.

His girlfriend pleading that they don't press charges because "football is all he has", is ridiculous. Should've told him that before or after the other multiple times he got caught breaking the law.

Couldn't agree more. Being a star athlete means you have privilege. It doesn't make you above the law. The life philosophy of "don't be a dirt bag" is pretty simple to follow.

If you read the article it states he would have to transfer and sit out a year at a FBS school......only way he plays in 2014 is to go to DII school as he is not 3 years out of High School and not draft eligible this year in supplemental. Guess that rules out any BiGTen school.......well except Illinois or Purdue-----LOL!

Any BCS conference school would need to be cautious if they extend a scholarship, even if it were any of the bottom feeders

cinserious's picture

Alabama and any other unscrupulous SEC school would take him without even flinching, ala Duron Carter. If any team out there needs a big, bad wide receiver, they take a chance on him. I just hope its not a B1G team!

Gone ham, be back soon...

southbay's picture

Unless he makes some real changes, his troubles will only get worse if he's sitting out a year.  People, places and things...
