Meanwhile, at Penn State...

I was at Penn State last week for a work conference, and I had a chance in the evening to take in the town.  Now, I should preface this by saying I have a lot of friends who are Penn State alumni, and I found the campus to be very charming and the people to be extremely nice.  It was also summer break, so perhaps all the rude jerks were off-campus.

Checking out my food options, I walked by the famous Sub Shop, and was struck by something amazing.  Keep in mind this photo was taken on May 22, 2013.

I like to think there was someone who had this job, was a little crestfallen by disappointing losses at the beginning of the season, only to get really excited by a win streak until...

I mean, I would have at least painted over the schedule if I wasn't going to update it any longer.  Or, I might have painted over it once the season ended.  But here we are, May 22, and the poor people of State College can't bring themselves to update this schedule, which is painted on their exterior, street-facing wall for all to see.

I almost considered doing them a solid and filling that week in for them. :)

Interesting.  I wouldn't have been embarrassed to fill out the entire schedule if I were them, because I think Penn State had a really respectable year considering their circumstances.  Plus, losing to Ohio State is nothing to be ashamed of :)

Looks like a case of not following up.

I would have finished, especially after the win over Wisconsin to close out what wasn't too bad of a season for them (all things considered).

Probably, but if you look really closely at the paint, you can see this is a yearly thing.  I'd like to think the guy who had the job is still laying on his couch in his whiteout shirt, surrounded by old pizza boxes and empty bottles of mountain dew, trying to work up the strength to get up and face the day.

if you had filled in that score, you would have become a legend for the rest of your life... but, youve done well... photoshop will make this into a 'lol'

Still trying to figure what they're proud about "now and forever"

I'm just happy to be here

If they are proud of the Creamery, I can get behind that.  That was some damn good ice cream.

Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see.

Ahhh the sweet sound of turning Happy Valley into Sad Valley.

Maybe they just really hate losing to Ohio State.

Class of 2010.

Reminds me of my favorite movie.

Yeah, whatever happened to Craig Bierko, anyway?

Have you tried Not Your Father's Root Beer?  It tastes just like the real thing, but it packs a punch (5.9%ABV).  It's a little sweet for me though.  Two is my limit.

The guy that was doing the painting, is the one with the frown

An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches

In other words, everyone in white.

Bald Santa looks like he's normally jolly.  Didn't get the memo about the white-out.  Either he has no white shirts, or hasn't heard about the internet yet.  And what about the ghost over his left shoulder (or am I the only one that can see that guy?).

Is that a dog with sunglasses?

Please paint in the next week and see if you get any reactions.

They left those so Matt McGloin will have work after he gets cut by the Raiders.

Stay golden, Ponyboy.

Makes me think of of an Air Force base I was once stationed at. They had a "Day since last DUI sign" at every gate. Each morning the last offender with security forces escorts would change the number.

Kaceybrown's picture

We had those at Ft Campbell & bliss, the numbers never grew very high...

One Bad Buckeye's picture

I'm doing some work at Andrews Air Force Base....I haven't seen any signs like that, but don't you get kicked out of the military for a DUI?

"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."

Kaceybrown's picture

The military is down sizing right now so it is more likely but it still boils down to how you are perceived by your chain of command. If your company commander and first sergeant, battalion commander and command sergeant major like you, they can go to bat for you.

Kaceybrown's picture

And I was wrong, at large military installations I've been to, it's not a DUI count but a death count that they display. A lot of soldiers die in garrison (at home, not deployed) for incredibly stupid reasons.

The dude who fills in the scores is Old Lady Paterno's Lawyer and he is too busy with BS lawsuits to update it!

Endured living in State Penn territory for almost 8 years; fortunately, we went 5-3 against the Nitwits. A lot of their fans are ok, but some are just plain ignorant. They almost had a cult-like worship of JoePa.
O'Brien has done an amazing job there, considering all the turmoil. Still, they are my 3rd most hated team (behind AACC & Wiscy) in the B1G.
