Just a spot to post any info, rumours, etc. regarding prospects that are considering attending The Ohio State University. I don't think there's any doubt that Urban is going to be working some serious magic on the recruiting trail and it's going to be a full time job trying to keep up.

Stuff like the following is what I'm looking for:

Dorial Green-Beckham, the No. 1 WR recruit in the country, reportedly visiting OSU this week after the Urban Meyer hire! (Has anyone else confirmed this?)

Jordan Diamond said tonight: "Talked with Urban Meyer a few minutes ago. good guy"

Feel free to post anything you hear & as always, GO BUCKS

Noah Spence, ESPN #4 prospect in the country, just tweeted: "just got off the phone with him {Urban} definitly at the top of the list for now"

Also, a lot of instability right now in the Maryland program, which can only help the Buckeyes as they are one of the other schools high on Spence's list.

Saw somewhere (maybe Bucknuts forum) that Green-Beckham's coach/legal guardian said something along the lines of "if he's going to take an official visit to Ohio State, that's the first I've heard of it". I think that one's more of a pipe dream than anything.

Great news about Spence though. Hopefully he can pull Diamond in as well.

The best thing about Urban as HC is no recruit is unattainable.

ThirdLegLouie's picture

Haven't been able to find a credible source for the Green-Beckham thing.. still looking. Probably a pipe dream, but if you're going to dream, dream big lol.

Jordan Diamond, top OL: "I was actually pretty happy to talk to him. I was concerned about the coaching staff, but he said everything is definitely solid."

Urban Meyer has issued his first scholarship offer: Cleveland Heights 2013 wide receiver Shelton Gibson.

Gibson is a track and field kid...real burner. Check out some of his times: http://dyestat.rise.espn.go.com/search.jsp?athID=173517

As a track guy, I can tell you those times are smokin', especially for a 6'2" 190 pound guy. Most the speedsters that run those times go around 5'10"ish 170.

To put those times in comparison, his best times in the 100 and 200 would have placed him 3rd and 5th respectively at the Florida 4-A State Championship, and I would venture to say most guys that ran faster aren't as big as him.

21.74 is his best 200m time (and he still has this year to improve on that). Ted Ginn ran 21.44 at his senior year state meet and this guy posted those times as a sophomore. I'd venture to say he can probably come close to that this year, and maybe get into the 10.60 range in the 100m... as a junior.

Looks like we found a deep threat.

BuddhaBuck's picture

Hopefully Braxton can throw a good deep ball by the time Gibson puts on the S&G.

TheHumbleBuckeye's picture

Braxton's problem throws - at least last week - were overthrows. This speedster would have been in a position to run them down. He's about .2 seconds faster in the 100m as a sophomore than Posey was as a senior. That's up to a 5-6 yard difference at full speed. The future looks bright.

With all this recruiting news, I'm pumped for Alex's Recruiting Notebook tomorrow. Eager to see what he's heard. He typically brings fresh information to his articles.

Did read a little while ago that we got a commit from Adolphus Washington from Cinci-Taft & supposedly pulled Ricquan Southward away from Miami after he just committed to them.

So glad he is actually hitting recruiting right away & getting immediate results. Should be entertaining to see what transpires over the next few weeks.

P.S. - If the above was already mentioned or known elsewhere, apologies. I don't typically follow the recruiting as much as some of the dedicated I've seen around.

I heard that gunner kiel the #1 quaterback might be in the mix now esp. If we bring in tim hinton from notre dame and strudwa from lsu because he is seriously considering both those schools and hinton and strudwa are the main coaches recruiting him at those schools

Nelson Agholor, a 4* ATH from Florida is showing some interest all of a sudden after being nowhere near OSU's radar prior to Monday.

Irricoir's picture

He looks like a great athlete with good vision. Based on this video alone he looks like an excellent return man/Slot receiver, Hall like but with more speed. I don't see him playing running back nor would I choose him for that position. He makes people miss with his speed and athleticism and is good in space but I saw little of him breaking tackles at contact. In college the speed barier minimizes and he will be on a more even playing field with the other athletes. I would like to see more power and balance when taking on tacklers. Hope we get him.

I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.

madhatterhater's picture

I like how he catches the ball with his hands. Posey was the only receiver to do that this year.

Irricoir's picture

Evan Spencer caught a ball with one hand while flying through the air, on his back! I am excited about both Spencer and Smith next year. Spencer should get more oportunities and Smith should improve in strength, size and ability to get off the defender.

Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep standout Yuri Wright, the nation’s top-ranked cornerback according to 247Sports, went into the Meyer morning with Michigan and Rutgers as his top two. A call from the new coach of the Buckeyes could change everything. “Heck yeah,” Wright stated when asked if he is now interested in the Buckeyes

ThirdLegLouie's picture

ESPNU 150 athlete Nelson Agholor of Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley has kept his recruiting close to the vest but when asked about Urban Meyer's return to coaching he said the following.

"It's a good unique situation, a very good situation for Ohio State," Agholor, who ranks as the No. 41 player in the ESPNU 150 and is a four-star athlete, said. "I never really dug into why he left [Florida] but Coach Meyer is a tremendous coach and a tremendous winner."

Popular belief has Agholor looking at Florida, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Auburn, Alabama and Florida State. Florida first contacted Agholor while Meyer was coach there and could be expected to reach out to him again in these final weeks.

"Ohio State is a great program and a draw on its own without Coach Meyer," Agholor said. "But with Coach Meyer there it's even more appealing. He's got a great history of developing players and turning players into winners. Anyone would be honored to be recruited by Coach Meyer."

However, OSU still not being shown in his top 5 in articles I'm reading... media conspiracy?? We'll see what happens after Meyer does an in home visit w/ him next week!

Don't believe there's anything to the Green-Beckham thing.

I think the number we take will be 22 with maybe a medical loss and one other loss. Might be more but at least that many. I'd guess we take 4 linemen 2 of which will be true OT prospects, a true DT and a rush end like Spence. For the other two we need another LB and then somebody who could play WR or S or maybe even OLB/Star.

I view Meyer as possibly the perfect combination of Cooper's national recruiting and Tressel's Ohio/Midwestern recruiting.

The chances of Nick Davidson, a Buckeye legacy, coming to Columbus are looking slimmer. He would definitely come, but I don't think OSU is going to go after him over other healthy, O-Line prospects.

• All-state Eden Prairie tackle Nick Davidson, one of the top nationally recruited players in the state and son of Vikings offensive line coach Jeff Davidson, suffered a serious injury when he broke his leg in the Class 5A quarterfinal game against Anoka and needed surgery.

Broke his leg on November 18.... That sucks.. Wish him a speedy recovery. But now it means that Diamon, Decker, and Dodson are more than likely the top 3 OL guys.

If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target

Northbrook's picture

Thanks for the update. I was wondering if they would still pursue Davidson. Looks like some of our offers may no longer be valid.

From Mike Farrell of Rivals: Darius Hamilton got a call from Urban Meyer 20 minutes ago and will be talking to him today. #OhioState could be in picture now.

ThirdLegLouie's picture

Mike Farrell of Rivals reported:

Per text from Stefon Diggs, he spoke to Urban Meyer last night and #OhioState is in the picture. Waiting to hear if he'll visit. Diggs said he is unsure of visit to #OhioState just yet and no officials scheduled, #Cal is still likely the first.

ALSO

ATH Joel Caleb was visited by #OhioState coach Stan Drayton today [Dec 1] and is looking forward to his official to Columbus this weekend.

“I was going to go to Michigan, but as of now, I’m not sure,” he said. “Maybe Auburn or Florida. I’ve got four left, so we’ll see how it goes.”

THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL DAY

Mike Farrell tweeted:
Noah Spence will take an official visit to #OhioState the weekend of Dec 17 after coaches visited Friday and Urban Meyer called today.

biggy84's picture

I wonder which coaches visited him. Luke and Drayton are the only ones that are official to stay.

ThirdLegLouie's picture

I think Drayton was over in PA. About two nights ago, Fickell and Meyer took a photo with Josh Perry in OH: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/117455...

Joel caleb had a good visit over the weekend. He said he had the time of his life and loved everything about ohio state. Sounds like its 2 outs bottom of the ninth just need meyer to close it out and with his track record he will make it happen. Also some reports out there that sevon pittman is all set to make a visit in the next few weeks

ThirdLegLouie's picture

Bri'onte Dunn is taking an Official Visit to OSU this weekend according to the Bank. Hopefully this OV closes the deal on this kid once and for all.  Sort of tired of the back and forth w/ scUM on this recruit.   This is also great because Kalis is going up to scUM this weekend for an Official and scUM coaches really wanted them to visit together.. SORRY scUM! :)

WR- Davonte Neal (Rivals 4*)

http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/Richardobert/150132

"Scottsdale Chaparral senior receiver/cornerback/kick returner Davonte' Neal has crossed off UA from his list, despite the recent hire of Rich Rodriguez as head coach, his father, Luke Neal, said.

Neal said that his son is no longer interested in UA. Neal crossed off ASU before the season began. Luke Neal said that he believes recently fired UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel would be a good candidate for the ASU job because of his Arizona and West Coast ties.

Davonte' Neal will be taking trips this weekend to Notre Dame, and Jan.20 to Arkansas. He also will likely trip to Ohio State after a coach comes in later this week fo visit Neal."
