The top 50 Fairmont player committed to Ohio State yesterday per the Dispatch.

Kettering Fairmont forward Makayla Waterman committed today to play basketball at Ohio State in the 2014-15 season.

Waterman went to OSU to deliver the news in person to coach Kevin McGuff, who cannot comment on the commitment, per NCAA rules.

She is the co-outstanding player of the Division I state championship tournament and granddaughter of former OSU assistant men's basketball coach Ben Waterman.

The 6-foot-2 forward is the 30th-ranked recruit in the country by the ESPN website HoopGurlz and No. 26 in the Philadelphia-based Blue Star Report.

So far Coach McGuff's first recruiting class is shaping up to be a monster with two other top 50 recruits in point guard Kelsey Mitchell & post Alexa Heart. Kelsey's twin sister Chelsea is the 4th member in the class, which could reach upwards of seven players.

Waterman's Fairmont teammate Kathryn Westbeld, another top 50 player, is also being heavily recruited by the Buckeyes. This past season Westbeld & Waterman joined the same AAU team as Hart & the Mitchell sisters.

Canadian combination guard Kia Nurse is also rumored to be a target. The 17 y/o from Hamilton Ontario was selected to play for the Canadian national senior women's team this past summer.

Great day for OSU hoops!

If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.  ~ Bruce Lee

So now it looks like we will have Mitchells on both men's and women's basketball teams in 2015, huh? Yeah, I know, not related...

This is great news. I would love for the women's hoops team to become the program that we all know it can be!

McGuff getting it done and keeping the in-state talent, even better.

Three more names to watch (I'm sure there are other targets as well):

F Myisha Hines-Allen - Final four of Louisville, Georgia Tech, Ohio State and West Virginia. Seems to favor UL and GT. 17th overall by Hoopsgurlz.

G Arica Carter - Final four of Ohio State, Michigan, Arizona State and Kansas. From Cal. Will officially visit each school. 88th overall by Prospect Nation.

F Kristen Simon - Final five of Ohio State, Texas, USC, Louisville and Cal. Another Cal product. Ranked 43rd by Hoopsgurlz.

It appears Coach McGuff is working hard to take seven prospects in this class.

Thanks for the additional info Jordan. I haven't really followed women's basetball that closely but with the hiring of McGuff and the stellar 2014 class in Ohio I've been paying a lot more attention this year.
Unfortunately sifting through the various message boards & sites dedicated to WBB can be a frustrating task as the actual useful information is much harder to find. As Sam Axe says "...a bunch of bitchy little girls" (that's the adult fans, not the athletes).

My wife is a teacher in Kettering schools. Maybe she can pull some strings to score us some tickets. Seriously though, we will have to catch a few games this year.
