Tragedy on the gridiron

Fellow 11warriors, it is with a heavy heart that I relay to you a personal experience from yesterday.

I play for the Northwest Ohio Knights, a GLFL semi-pro team out of Toledo. Yesterday we played a benefit game with the proceeds going to ALS research (our head coach is a victim of ALS).

Close to half time our special teams unit was fielding a punt when an opposing player was hit hard on a legal crack-back. It stopped his heart. We had two nurses, two EMTs and a fully equipped ambulance at the ready. They did chest compressions, defibs, hooked him up to every machine they had seemingly, but it wasn't enough. At thirty-two years old, David Coleman of the Jay County Panthers passed away. He was the father of four daughters, a friend to everyone that knew him, and an all-around good guy.

I wanted to share this with you because he was also a Buckeye fan and loved the game of football.

RIP #58.

Duron Carter - The Plot Thickens

Apparently people have been bothering Duron on FaceBook for information about his plans regarding Ohio State.

I just noticed a juicy morsel in my news feed from Duron:

"People stop asking me questions about O state.... ask them..."

Before he was dominating the nation at Coffeyville (TerreLOL!) he was making waves at OSU as a crushing blocker with sticky hands, poised to make a jump in playing time. There are plenty of fans that would love to see him back in the scarlet and grey.

Perhaps I'm reading more in to this than I should, but his statement seems to indicate that Duron is waiting on OSU before he makes a move. I would assume there is still a scholarship available for him if he wanted to commit, so this makes me wonder if there are still academic issues involved.

Anyone care to offer alternate conjectures?

My Cousin Georgie: Cam Newton is doomed

Hey, Cam, you're in Ala-frickin'-bama. You come from Florida. You stole a laptop. There is no way this is not going to trial!

This choice line from Newton's lawyer, George Lawson, is not exactly confidence inspiring:

"I am a million percent confident that Cam Newton took no money from no one," Lawson said Thursday. "I would suggest to you he knew nothing about any solicitation of any money from anyone."

Let me get this straight, you are 'a million percent confident' that he didn't take money from nobody? Or is it that he didn't not take money from somebody? The fact that you chose to phrase it that way does not make me a million percent confident that you are capable of convincing no one of nothing.

Also, are you suggesting that "he knew nothing" or you "would suggest if...". Why not just state that Cam has no knowledge of money being either solicited or transferred in any way connected to him?

If Cam Newton were to end up being innocent of any wrongdoing it would be a shame to see him go down due to clumsy lawyering.
