THE RUNNING START

TV: Saturday, Noon ESPN

Ohio State's overall record in the series is 45-58-6* and is 20-31-4 at Ann Arbor CC.
*I include the vacated 2010 victory at home, NCAA be damned.

Since 2004 Ohio State has won 8 of 9 games and 3 of 4 at Ann Arbor Community College.

The Buckeyes have outscored this opponent 278-171 in that 9 game span.

23 games is Ohio State's longest winning streak...ever.

Braxton Miller's 2,724 career rushing yards makes him Ohio State's leading rusher at quarterback.

Record Breakers:
Ryan Shazier tied an Ohio State record with 16 solo tackles against Indiana.

The 2013 Buckeyes have already set a new school record for touchdowns with 73. The 1995 team had the previous record with 64.

The school record for points per game is 42.5. The 2013 Buckeyes need 61 points (20.3 points per game) over the next three games to break the record.

Shazier tied a school record with 5.0 tackles for loss in a single game.

221, the total number of points scored by Ohio State against Penn State, Purdue and Indiana. That is the most points ever by an Ohio State team in a three-game span.

With one more touchdown pass the 2013 Buckeyes will break the school record of 33 touchdown passes in a season.

The Buckeyes are averaging  6.9 yards per rushing attempt (the record is 5.7 in 1974).

Getting Defensive:
The Buckeyes are holding opponents to 95.3 rushing yards per game.

Ohio State has allowed two rushes over 20 yards this season.

The Silver Bullets have 36 sacks this season; Noah Spence leads the team with 7.5 sacks.

Know Thy Opponent:
That Team has lost four of its last six games and should send its 17 seniors out with a loss in their last game at home.

If TTUN wants to ruin Ohio State's chances of finishing the regular season undefeated Devin Gardner will have to have his best game of the season. He has accounted for at least two touchdowns in 13 of his last 16 games.

Gardner's main targets are TE Devin Funchess and WR Jeremy Gallon. Funchess has caught a single-season record 686 receiving yards for That Team. Senior WR Gallon is second in the Big Ten averaging just over 100 receiving yards per game. This season he became the 13th receiver in their program's history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards. However, through 11 games this season Gardner has 11 interceptions. Get him rattled and he will turn the ball over.

If Gardner cannot throw the ball our rivals could be in big trouble. Statistically their running game against Ohio State's rush defense is a huge mismatch. Borges' run directed offense ranks 100th in the FBS and should get further exposed against the Buckeyes' sixth ranked rush defense that is only allowing 95.3 yards per game.

One bright spot for our rivals is its rush defense. They are holding opposing offenses to just over 116 rushing yards and are ranked 14th in the nation. If Ohio State is able to run the ball it should be a long afternoon for the boys in blue.

Today's Trivia Questions:
After Arizona defeated Oregon many fans of our rival were wondering if they should have kept Rich Rod. What was Rich Rod's record with That Team?

What do Ohio State, Syracuse and Wisconsin have in common?

What year did That Team last win a Big Ten Championship?

Against Indiana Wilson had 26 yards rushing (6.5 ypc) 32 yards receiving (10.7ypr), a receiving TD and 25 yards on one kickoff returns for a total of 83 yards.

For the season Ezekial Elliott has averaged 8.7 ypc, gained 262 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown.

Cliff Claven's Little Known Facts Corner:

The Buckeyes have scored at least 40 points in 9 of the 11 games this season (Wisconsin 31, Iowa 34).

206-38, the margin Ohio State is outscoring teams in the first quarter.

Braxton Miller has had ten games of 300 or more yards of total offense.

Ohio State has been ranked for 23 straight weeks in the AP Top 10.

Ohio State's defense has not allowed an opposing player to rush for 100 yards.

The 2013 Buckeyes' offense has thrown 33 touchown passes tying the 1995 team for the most ever.

Time for a return? Illinois had one against Ohio State, but the Buckeyes have not returned a kickoff or punt return for a touchdown this season. Ohio State has had at least one return in 10 straight years.

Falling off the Cliff:
Facts and stats that were in Cliff's Corner last week that are now busted.

Ohio State has scored at least 55 points in the last three games. 42 against Indiana...Cliff busted it. .

The Buckeyes' defense has intercepted a pass in every game this season. Zero against Indiana...Cliff busted it.

Awesome as always though.  Thanks!

Remy -
Why do you have Heuerman listed as a WR? And why did you omit Philly Brown and Devin Smith as WR's?

Remy's picture

1MeCheng,
Thanks for the help.
Sorry about the typos. I'm a perfectionist and the WR/TE and 45th/5th mistakes irk me.
I didn't get to work on this until late last night and finished around 1:30 in the morning.
Will try to do better next week.
Answers to your questions:
Didn't have Brown and Smith because I wanted to give the tight ends some love.
The WR tag was a carryover from last week. Behind the curtain info: I copy paste the individual stat info and update it from week to week. I try to give a spotlight to the individual players who performed the best in the previous game.

Love that Mattison GIF, he's the main reason TSUN SUCKS so bad. Really bad defense. GO BUCKS!

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

InvertMyVeer's picture

I'd argue it's the other way around. Outside of the Irish and Indiana wins the ttun offense has been horribly inconsistent. They cant run the ball outside of Gardner, who is turnover prone. Their offense constantly puts their defense in bad spots.

Football is complicated...

TMac's picture

Yep - In their last 4 ga_es TTUN has rushed for an average of 33.25 yards per ga_e - that won't get you anywhere - Literally.
