The men so blue are having mixed emotions after yet another loss to Ohio State.

I have posted some of the gems from mgoblog.com so you don't have to read all 224 posts.

The spelling and words are theirs. It is difficult, but I will not correct their spelling and grammatical errors.

It is good to be a Buckeye.

This is the happiest I've ever seen the fanbase after losing to OSU.

It's a nice feeling.

imdwalrus

DEMORALIZING. You can go celebrate this loss if you like,  but dont label those not whistleing past the graveyard. 7-5 YAY

Homesick Alien

This is why I am not happy. We are now in the mindset of "at least we didn't get blown out." How fucking pathetic. Almost half my life, I have seen disappointing football and being embarrassingly owned by Ohio. It is becoming not fun, which really sucks because I love CFB and Michigan.

I Have a Gnarly Face

Cool it
Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with you, you've made your perspective clear. Now kindly shut the fuck up rather than saying the same thing over and over.

Blueph

Whose happy?
Im Fuckn PISSED..the end result is THE SAME a Loss to OHIO,,just like always....12 out of 14yrs...Im incensed that other M fans arent eqully pissed...it appears that everyone is Pleased that we ALMOST won...WHEN did Michigan fans fall to this level

Wolvie3758

Were you dropped on your head as a child?

Drbogue

My point is just that our expectations in the week leading up to this game had been historically lowered by our awful performance. It's the rare point in time that Michigan fans are happy with a loss at home to OSU. And that says something about where our program is.

Magnum P.I.

...The realization that they've been mailing it in the last month does not make me proud. :(

RovSk

No winning of course sucks.
But seeing Al saving his job sucks as well. Of course really proud of the kids.

massblue

Yeah it's a big fucking bummer to have an OC that can put up good numbers in important games.  Fuck off.

Soulfire 21

...This game pretty much cements that Borges is here to stay for at least another year though. That part kinda blows.

vicoriaed90

Well, if this game prevents OSU from getting into the NC then it will feel like a win on some level.

Logic

This is sickening
We lost! To OSU! At home! Blah Blah Blah, what about that defense, are we pretending it wasnt as bad as any RR era defense today? I want to throw up at how completely clueless we are defensively and yet everyone seems to be proud? Is this where we are now?

Homesick Alien

It does make you wonder when Mattison is finally going to lose his highly undeserved "genius" label.  393 rushing yards allowed is absolutely pathetic.  Even RichRod's defenses never gave up that much.  This guy is getting his ass handed to him over and over and over again, and the only reason why the team isn't statisically terrible is because they have played only two elite offenses this year, and in both games they got embarrassed RichRod style.

Hannibal

Fuck Ohio
We played much better but not good enough and I'm never happy, losing to the Evil empire!

randyfloyd

...I love Michigan.  I will always root for them no matter what stroke inducing thing they do to me.  But it was really depressing watching how much they regressed throughout the season and then to finish their final season game like...that.  I hated the fact that I wanted football season to be over in mid-October....which is something I always said when RichRod was here.  I just hate this feeling.

GO BLUE always.

Wolverine Historian

Where was this all fucking year, Al?

CoachParker6

What a joke
393 yards rushing at 8.5 a carry..lol Im not impressed with Mattison or the defensive players effort. That was UGLY and the fact that UM had NO chance to stop them from running down their throat is why BH went for the 2-point conversion. This was RR era defense.

Homesick Alien

FWIW, the OSU hate is so strong out here the talking heads on sports radio are bitching about the go for two because it didn't work and Ohio won.

Skullfuck the Trolls

Watching Devin today was great. Loved that they went for two. But I agree with the unfortunately crude crowd that feels like this is still a failure. A loss is a loss.

Avant's Hands

Yeah,
It looked like Jim Delany was doing his best to make sure the refs handed him an undefeated OSU, to represent the B10 in the NC game.  Hopefully Sparty can stick it right up those Ohio buck nuts....

JD_UofM_90

I must be the only Debbie Downer. I didn't know we were at the point were it was a "great game" because it was close. I remember when a win was the only thing that was acceptable.

I'm sure Ohio will go home and say "that was a great game" hell no they'll say the won, again..

Call me a dick, see how much sleep I lose over it.

Ticker Tape

Hurts
We have found every conceivable way to lose to these bastards over the years. Close shootouts, quick starts followed by hitting a stone wall and of course a few blowouts at their place. It's sickening.

UM Indy

I would do something batshit crazy
and hire Jim Tressel.   The guy is a proven winner and one hell of a recruiter.  Hoke will be good for 3-4 losses a year and is intent on returning UM to the Stone Age.

StraightDave

Bottom line: Yet another loss to the hated team down south. It's sucks beyond belief. The coaches and players should be really sicken about today. Nothing good came out of today because the end result was a loss.

Wait a second, OMG, I know you ... you're the guy who writes about Warren G. Harding!

ScarletNGrey101,
I'm with you, DJ's The $1,000,000 Presidential Power Parlay is fantastic. I look forward to reading it every Wednesday.
A shame Ohio State did not cover this week. I'm afraid to see what happens to Warren G. Harding's soul. Perhaps Saban's Satan's loss to Auburn will spare him. Then again his wrath will probably be worse.
I do have an idea for a spin-off of the Parlay. Waiting for the offseason, and permission from DJ, to write it. Perhaps a better idea is to give DJ the idea and let him run with it.
By the way it's 8:20 and M*ch*gan still sucks!

I know we all wanted the blowout. There's like a 1,000 things to point out on defense and another 150 or so on offense but.. We just took our biggest rival's best shot right on the chin in their house and came away with the win. At the end of the day OSU-MICH traded shots, and in one of those EPIC sports moments the entire game came down to one last minute play. This game was unforgettable and events in it will be replayed for years to come when the rivalry is brought up. Thank you for posting these awesome gifs!

Correct me if I am wrong, but in the begining of the season Game 1 through Game 2, everyone in the BIG 10 said that MSU has a great defense but the offense is HORRIBLE.  I remember everyone saying that through the first 3 or 4 weeks of the season.  I saw the same, no rushing offense, poor line for pass blocking, and nothing was working offensively for Sparty....What has changed they have emerged as a B offense, rather than the F they started out as.  They have progressed worked hard , corrected things, and have become a very well balanced offense. leaps and bounds from where they were at the begriming of the season.  Ask yourself WHY?

Answer: GREAT COACHING!!!  They made changes, developed to their strengths and progressed in their weaknesses.
Our defense had question marks in the beginning of the year, but have they progressed at all?  They have digressed if anything; they look more uncomfortable tackling, playing defense than I have ever seen them, and that includes week 1 of this season...
Great coaches .....COACH!
Go Bucks!!!!

Excellent compilation, Remy! I am enjoying their angst, particularly the fact that they get to enjoy this coaching staff for the foreseeable future.

Oh how I wish you could hear the sports talk radio in Ann Arbor after the game!  Lulz all around, especially the scUM fans that blamed the loss on other scUM fans that sold their tickets to Buckeyes!  Loved it.

Here's one Michigan fan's take on yesterday, for what it's worth.
I don't agree with the notion of calling yesterday a success just because Michigan didn't get blown out against its chief rival.  Obviously, that's a pretty low bar to clear in most years and is not something that the winningest program in college football history should have to resort to.
That said, there are games in which you can be proud of your team, even in defeat.  People who focus on the specific stats from either team yesterday are missing the point.  Football is a weird game.  Sometimes you end up in a defensive struggle that you weren't anticipating, and other times you end up in a wild shootout.  At that point, the only thing that matters is doing whatever it takes to win the game at hand.  Style points, stats, etc simply don't matter in the moment.  Especially against your chief rival when so much is on the line for both teams (chance to salvage respectability for Michigan's season, chance to keep the 2 year undefeated streak going for OSU).
And so while I'm naturally devastated that Michigan lost, I can't look back at yesterday's game and say, "well, we should have done 'X' differently and then we would have won the game."  For one day on the field, the two teams were as even as even could get.  They traded punches back and forth with each other and whenever one team looked like they had landed a critical blow, the other team rallied back.  Ok, so Michigan didn't convert that final 2 point conversion.  Shit happens - a play like that is a 50/50 proposition at best.  But considering all the shit that had transpired for Michigan over the past month, to even be in that position to win the game was a credit to the players and coaching staff for sucking it up and not packing it in.
I've read the typical over-reactions and troll posts on various sites but the bottom line is the 2 teams played a nailbiter classic in which they both acquitted themselves well.  Obviously one team had to lose, but if I'm going to have to stomach a loss for my team, I'd much rather watch a game like yesterday's than the debacle earlier this month against MSU, or any of the RichRod era games against OSU.
There's nothing you can really take away big picture from the state of either program just from yesterday's game.  The fact that Michigan scored at will on OSU doesn't mean Al Borges has figured it out, and the fact that Braxton Miller and Carlos Hyde ran for over 300 yards combined doesn't mean they'll be able to replicate the feat against a different team.  The result of yesterday's game also doesn't indicate to me one way or the other what the outcome of the next 5 years' worth of games will look like, or whether Meyer will forever own Hoke, etc etc.
Yesterday should simply be appreciated for what it was:  A classic game between two archrivals in which the term "throw the records out" was never more appropriate.

60% of the time it works.....every time

darbnurb's picture

Thanks for your perspective.  I tend to agree.  I love that it was a nail biter to the end.
Also, according to this, the 2-pt conversion was 44.7% at best (in 1959 the first year of 2-pt conversions and much closer to 40% than 50% today), which is still considerably better than matching Hyde/Braxton's red zone TD conversions.

The bastards put up a good fight, and we ripped their hearts out. Best football they've played in Hoke's tenure and it still wasn't enough to get us on an off day. That must bug the crap out of them!

I love this post. Not only because of the completely devastated "if you can't beat 'em,  join 'em" look towards Tressel, but also because of the subconscious Flintstone shout out.
