FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Bret Bielema's war of words with Auburn is alive and well.

The Arkansas coach's latest issue with the Tigers' coaching staff came as a result of game video Auburn shared with the Razorbacks, footage Bielema said painted a less-than-complete picture of the Tigers' plays.

"There are just some clips that haven't, shall we say, the TV copy doesn't match the film copy," Bielema said.

Bielema's complaint, which he said he filed with the Southeastern Conference, is the most recent in a series of run-ins with Auburn for the first-year Arkansas coach -- dating back to back-and-forth banter between he and Tigers coach Gus Malzahn during the summer.

The video issue adds an additional layer of intrigue to Saturday's game between the struggling Razorbacks (3-5, 0-4 SEC) and No. 11 Auburn, a game in which Arkansas welcomes home its former offensive coordinator and native son, Malzahn.

The Tigers (7-1, 3-1) have experienced immediate success in their first season under the former Arkansas State coach who also served as the offensive coordinator at Auburn during its national championship season in 2010.

The latest bit of success for the Tigers was last week's 45-10 win over Florida Atlantic, a game Bielema watched a television copy of while Arkansas had its first bye week of the season.

It was while comparing the television copy of the game and the video Auburn sent that Bielema found a difference.

"On the TV copy, they have a swinging gate at the beginning of the play, which obviously happened," Bielema said. "It was on the TV copy. And when we got the video copy from them today, that exact same play doesn't show any of the gate.

"... So, if I hadn't watched the TV copy, or if our guys hadn't had the time to go back and review, we would have never known that to happen."

During SEC media days in July, Bielema had his first run-in with Malzahn after the Auburn coach said he thought Bielema's concerns for player safety in a no-huddle, hurry-up system were "a joke."

"I'm not a comedian," Bielema responded.

The Malzahn-Bielema exchange was followed by another bit of public banter between the Arkansas coach and another Auburn coach in August following an injury to Arkansas tight end Austin Tate.

Following Tate's injury, Tigers assistant coach Tim Horton -- previously an assistant at Arkansas -- tweeted his well-wishes to the tight end for a speedy recovery. His tweet, however, came a day before Bielema planned to release news of the injury -- leading to a phone conversation between the two.

"I go over in detail our players, our coaches, our media in-house and, of course, how we release information," Bielema said at the time. "I forgot to review this with the Auburn staff."

Bielema's complaint about the lacking video on Monday overshadowed what's been a difficult first season for the former Wisconsin coach with the Razorbacks. Arkansas enters the game against the Tigers having lost five straight games, the longest losing streak of Bielema's career as coach.

While the Razorbacks have struggled in their first year with a new coach, Auburn's fortunes have quickly turned under Malzahn following last season's 3-9 record.

Malzahn's quick success has led to increased scrutiny of Bielema at home because of Malzahn's ties to Arkansas as a former assistant coach and long-time high school coach there.

Monday's video complaint just adds another subplot to the relationship between the two head coaches, as well as Saturday's game.

"I'm sure it's a glitch," Bielema said. "I know Gus stands for everything that's right and (has) great faith in doing things right. So, I'm sure it's just a glitch that they'll get to the bottom of."

The guy is an absolute embarrassment. You have to think the folks down at Arkansas are starting to panic. This is not going well.

I don't remember the timeline, but why didn't Arkansas end up taking a look at Malzon?

Fugelere's picture

If I were an Arkansas fan I'd be wondering the same thing.

Arkansas did offer Les Miles some outrageous money during their search (that ended with Bert).  I think it was like $7 million a year.  I'm sure all that accomplished was leverage for Les to renegotiate his contract.

I give douche 2 more years and he and his beautiful hog wife will wash up at Eastern Kintucky playing Western Kintucky for douche bag team of Kintucky. I believe you will see Bert has a bigger inner tube as he lays claim to lake Cumberland and posts Bro pictures of Bruce Pearl in his bedroom at his top shelf double wide. Dang gummit that will pull the recruits...

When Bert leaves Hog Heaven his trophy wife will leave him.  She seems to be pretty high maintenance and high on herself and won't let Bert drag her down with him.

Completely agree.  Just like when Carley left Ricky Bobby for Cal in Talladega Nights

Hey, EKU has a decent football history, they won a couple of NCAA 2 titles and have turned out a couple of really good pros, Wally Chambers being the most notable,
I don't have any problem with your picking on WKU - that shows good taste.  If you want an opponent for them try Murray State or Morehead State.

Bert couldn't coach at Morehead.  He would giggle every time he said their name.

Enjoying this to the fullest while it lasts, as I think he'll be out of the FBS head coaching ranks after he's chased out of Fayetteville in another year or so.

We'll see him take over for Louth Holthz, and he and May will trolltastically dazzle college football fans and Ohio State Haters alike with their infinite wisdom.

Please oh dear lord do not let this happen.

I disagree, some stupid school will hire him. Look at the guys who keep getting shots at coaching jobs. I mean he did win 3 straight B1G championships, right?

I'm not so sure. Mike Leach had a heck of a time catching on with a program this last time around...and he's a genius offensive coach.
Biff Tannen lacks the brilliant mind that might persuade potential employers to look the other way in regards to his personality.
I think someone will probably take a flyer on him...but I also think it'll be an extremely low profile school. A Northern Iowa perhaps.

I miss Bert...He added some enjoyment to the Big10.

He was a nice little side show, like the bearded lady at the carnival.  The B1G is better without Bert, but it is less entertaining.

"Say my name."

Dr. House's picture

And just like the carnival it returns. He will be at Iowa soon enough

Doc's picture

Man that would be epic.  I hope this is true.  Having him back at his alma mater would be the shit.  He would be even more trolltastic than ever.  Showin' off his Iowa tattoo at pressers and stuff.

"Say my name."

Depending on when Pelini gets the ax at Nebraska maybe Bert makes a stop as a Cornhusker coach before Ferentz's contract runs out?

You need a hug, Bert?

Mention Michigan in this house and I'll smack you so hard you'll wish it was two months later so the pain will go away...

Someone complained about this with regard to Ohio state a few years ago. Was it Bert? It may also have been MSU

I love Bert "I'm not a comedian" Bielema.

I think it was Narduzzi at MSU last year complaining that the tapes didn't show all the formation changes prior to the snap.

Clearly the loss was because of the film cheating and the injury announcement.  How can you not see this?
When the wife divorces him, she'll claim "it was bad karma together".

Gotta love it.  Bert is like the gift that keeps on giving.  Every time he opens his fat mouth he inserts his foot

Did the bye week give Bert altered film prior to that loss too? Bert just can't seem to catch a break.

This sumbitch is so cocky he probably doesn't even have a pre-nup with that trophy wife of his.  Right Bert, cuz all hot chicks love fat, greasy, squinty-eyed dudes who are two years away from being unemployed, and most likely smell like french fries.

How anyone, outside of Arkansas obviously, thinks Arkansas is a more prestigious CFB gig than Wisconsin is beyond me. Seriously, who outside of Arkansas would be an Arkansas fan? Have you ever met someone that just chose to be an Arkansas fan?

I wasn't born a Buckeye but I became one as fast as I could.

Does anybody else watch his weekly segment on ESPNU?  It is hilarious.  It starts with the host stating their lobsided blowout score, then Bert replies with the same cliches every week: "We are getting better, but we haven't seen it on the scoreboard."
