For those of you familiar with my rankings, welcome back! For those of you unfamiliar, each team is assigned points based on wins and losses. The points are then averaged into a point total and then ranked using Microsoft Excel.

Teams that win receive:

24 points for defeating a BCS opponent, Notre Dame, or BYU

20 points for defeating a FBS opponent that is not in a BCS conference, or is named Notre Dame or BYU

16 points for defeating a FCS opponent

12 points for defeating a DII/DIII/NAIA opponent (note: did not happen)

And teams all received points from opponents win/loss record based on:

2 points for each win against a FBS opponent

1 point for each win against a FCS opponent

0 points for each win against an opponent classified DII or lower

For example, Ohio State won 12 games this season. Since Michigan State beat Ohio State, they receive 24 points for the win, in addition to 22 points for each win over a FBS team and 1 point for the win over a FCS team

And without further ado, here are the rankings:

Very interesting Nova.  You're rankings are very close to the actual rankings.  I like the how you put this together.  Pretty cool.

Considering all the great coaches to coach at Miami (OH), surprised they are 0-12 and dead last. What has happened up there?

O-H I-O's picture

Maybe Miami (OH) just have been missing out on all of the leftovers (recruits) to all other colleges in Ohio, including Mount Union and University of Michigan...
I wouldn't be surprised if Wisconsin-Whitewater snatched up some as well.

Don Treadwell happened. Miami was 8-21 (4-8, 4-8, 0-5) during the former Michigan State offensive coordinator's tenure as head coach.

Nice ranking system Nova Buckeye.

Purdue, bottom of the barrel in the B1G... Hazell has got quite a lot of work to do to turn that program around. I like seeing Tressel's former assistants succeed, just not at our expense.

What is this? A center for ants?!? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read if they can't even fit inside the building?

I wish we could've faced South Carolina in a bowl...think we'd roll them.

You only have Kentucky ahead of Purdue because of that SEC bias, what the hell man! Just kidding, very solid rankings.

To be fair, Kentucky has more wins than Purdue. The fact that Purdue is right behind Kentucky despite the difference in wins is proof that the SEC really isn't that great, particularly the SEC East.

The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.

Well done, sir.  Looks pretty good to me.  I still look at things like this, and from the B1G perspective, wonder what the conference would look like if ASU had not been gifted the win over Wisconsin.

2014 pre season rankings are extremely important!!!!!  2014 is the first year of a 4 team Playoff!!!

If tOSU is ranked outside of the top 5 teams in the country can they make the move upward playing in the BIG 10???  Also, going forward every year we will need people to loose and have to hope for things to happen above us and out of our control.

I wish they would just go to a divisional playoff:
Game 1)  BIG 10 champ Versus Pac 12 Champ
Game 2) SEC Champ Versus ACC Champ
Game 3) Big 12 Champ versus AAC or other.
This would be all we need every year!!!  6 Teams playing for the TITLE!!!
After these 3 games: Left with 3 Winners. The highest ranked team receiving a Bye in the 2nd round.

Excellent work NoVA... I find it interesting that Auburn does in fact finish tops among one loss teams, so I guess the BCS got it right?
I also love the fact that the Tide roll in right behind the Buckeyes...
Thanks for taking the time to do this. Hopefully the Buckeyes can beat a 10 win team and climb a little higher in the final standings!

I like how the top 5 represent 5 separate conferences.
