Urban Meyer improved to 11-0 all-time in conference openers with Ohio State's 17-16 win over Michigan State in East Lansing. The Buckeyes didn't play a perfect game, but the win was an important win. Michigan State was thought to be the most complete team in the Big Ten and winning on the road is never easy. The Spartans also featured the league's top running back, but Le'Veon Bell was held to a meager 45 yards on 17 carries – just 2.6 yards per carry.
Now, Ohio State finds itself in a position to be favored in every remaining game on the schedule.

Bad call on the Hyde hit. In real time it looked like he hit high but he hit him square in the chest and there was no fair catch. AFAIK there's no halo rule on non-fair catches and they called unnec. roughness.
Exactly why urban was so fired up. I thought he was going to take out an official and demonstrate what an illegal hit looks like.
In real time it looked legit. The replay shows he got neck/chin. It was the right call. A lot of fair catches after that, though. ;)

The Michigan State player was hold the ball right under his chin. I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to knock the ball out of his hands.

I don't know about that D5K...I thought it was a good hit at first but after watching the slo mo I thought was high. Didn't think it was malicious though just happened to catch him too high.

On the other hand, Hyde was hitting the returner where the ball was - right up under his chin. Hyde was trying to knock the ball loose. I kinda feel like if the returner doesn't want to get hit in the Adam's Apple, don't put the ball there.
So, as long as a hit on the returner was fair game (no fair catch, etc.), then the hit should have been fine, too, unless the rule says a player cannot even inadvertantly make contact above the shoulder pads.
That's valid, & I thought he went at the ball too, but I think the rule is you can't hit the head...having re-watched it quite a bit, I still think it was a good call, but like the guy above said - not a lot of return attempts after that!
