Back Pedaling 101 With the NCAA

I saw this article http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/college-football/story/_/id/9728503/usc-athletic-director-pat-haden-lobbies-ncaa-reduce-sanctions.  Frankly, I support USC (ack, pttttth!   Spit, spit! This is killing me! )  with their claim that since Penn State gets scholarship forgiveness from the NCAA  (a new thing from our version of the arbitrary Wizard of Oz) that all the other sanctioned programs should shout from their perspective towers for similar treatment.  I say, why not!  We should too!  Quick!   Somebody take away my exclamation point key!   I'm fired up!!!!  Hey Delaney, get your cell phone out!

I would suspect that if you are a fan of  Oregon/UNC/Cam Newton's dad/etc, you thought it was great that  USC/OSU took it in the teeth, ha-ha-ha because of those turrible cheaters and their transgressions.  But damn, damn were we lucky!

My mantra would be

A) WHAT EXACTLY WERE THE VIOLATIONS AGAIN?   CAN WE REVISIT THIS SCHOLARSHIP SHIT AGAIN?   ARE WE NOT DOING ENOUGH MEA CULPAS IN COMPLIANCE LIKE PENN ST?

B) What is with the dragging on of the Miami story for longer than it took for OJ's 2nd trial and even longer than his current prison term?

C) DID WE MENTION JOHNNY MANZIEL?  Oh yeah, but despite numerous postings on social media of underage drinking, a very shady hotel room meeting,  Johnny M was solved in a couple of weeks while everything else you do including ordering burgers takes 3 years?  Oh that's right.  His family has better lawyers and the NCAA & public now thinks that's ok.

> end of rant. Beat Wisky,

Well, you know, Penn State didn't violate any NCAA rules, so the NCAA should not have imposed any sanctions in the first place.  So there!
Edit: For the record, I thought the sanctions against Penn State were appropriate.  I was being sarcastic.

I don't understand it either. Just another example of this bias that doesn't exist.

Um--"back-peddling" should be "backpedaling" unless USC and Reggie Bush were going back and begging for more money.  Although it would be a nice pun--that they were begging for the old sanctions to be removed, but actually they are begging now. . .

Fixed.  <red face>  Thanks!

Grammar policing always gets an up vote from me when you turn the error into something funny.  Well done.

I didn't want to be one of those guys, but since it was in the title thought I should mention it. Lane Kiffin should be peddling soon as he will be out of a job before too long.

Well, he is out of a job two days later.  LOL

The NCAA can't enforce their own rules. That need to be spoon fed the proof in order to proceed. It's a total crock..
Johnny Manziel and Cam Newton are laughing..

Idaho Helga's picture

Exactly the point.   In fact, they are laughing all the way to the bank.

BuckGnome's picture

Absolutely.  The big takeaway for these schools is to turn their compliance departments into "compliance" departments.

Couple weeks? More like 6 hours.

Scotch: It may be too early to drink it, yes; but people it is never to early to think about it.

You're right, I didn't look it up before posting but I believe it was under a week in closing the Manziel case.  I guess it's that SEC speed again.

Jonnferrell's picture

He used that SEC speed to sign all those autographs and take the money in record time.

@Helga - I want you on my side when I meet the NCAA in a dark alley! You're fired up!  Bring your brass knuckles & I'll bring my shillelagh.

Idaho Helga, ready for battle with the NCAA....

It's amazing.  You found a picture of me.  It would be perfect except I'm a (better living through chemistry) blonde.  Thanks!

Damn it, I was thinking blonde, but didn't go with it.

Mark Emmert, I'm comin' for you.  Donna Shalala bought me the sword.  She said it's not your head I should be cutting off, though.

Idaho Helga's picture

Thanks for the encouragement.  Yet here in Idaho, we're into firearms.  I don't even know exactly how many are in our safe, we bought a bigger one last year.  It's elk season so I have the house to myself today which means I get to watch/listen(radio) to more football and I don't have to wonder what to make for lunch!

That blade is downright scary, because you know after she shoots you she is going to cut your head off.

The NCAA is like a teenage high school girl. It has various mood swings and is very hard to predict. It also shows preferential treatment based on how everyone else views that individual (or in this case, program) that happens to be with the "in" crowd. This is why the NCAA is a joke.

The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.
