I saw a comment on an ESPN stroy which reminded me about the new B1G Championship Trophy. I called the B1G home office and left a message with Jim Delany's secretary. She was very polite as she took my name and number. I merely said that the conference may want to consider a new name for the trophy and stick to naming it the B1G Ten Championship Trophy, or only name it after someone who has been dead for at least 50 years and has had their entire coaching career and university activities fully vetted.

I heard something about a trophy named after Woody and Bo...maybe that's what they should go with now. Who is "Stagg" anyway?

He coached at the University of Chicago. Which of course is still relevant to B1G athletics...

the fact that the Championship WASN'T named after Woody and the Traitor was one of the big errors of the dual nomenclature fiasco as a whole, but at this point the Stagg Trophy has a decent ring to it. I feel for Penn State fans through all of this. I feel for the victims who have to listen to this crap in the 24 hour news cycle. It just goes to hammer home how ONE bad decision destroys a lifetime worth of good ones. Some guy in a sweater vest wrote that once.

How about replacing the Paterno tarnish with the name of Biggie Munn. Biggie is an alumn of Minnesota, an assistant at the hated team in AA, and the only Big Ten Coach to lead his team in their first eligible season to the Big Ten Crown and WIN the Rose Bowl. The conference owes him for the three seasons his teams had to spend waiting without being able to go to a bowl because the conference rules insisting on only sending the champion to the Rose Bowl game; his three teams were once defeated #9 ranked; undefeated #2 (one polls #1); and undefeated national champions. MSU's ice hockey arena is named after him (after his first and only Big Ten season at MSU he was promoted to AD).
