Gunnier Kiel switches to ND...where VHT QB prospects go to DIE (career-wise)

"Five-star quarterback Gunner Kiel has apparently had an 11th-hour change of heart and decided to switch his commitment from LSU to Notre Dame, sources tell Scout.com.

Kiel committed to the Tigers on Dec. 27, a pledge that came after the Columbus, Ind., native backed away from a commitment to Indiana on Oct. 21.

The nation’s No. 1-ranked quarterback prospect was scheduled to arrive in Baton Rouge on Jan. 14 as an early.

On Monday morning, multiple sources confirmed that Kiel was not on LSU’s campus – two days after he was set to arrive.

A source later said Kiel was not in a 3 p.m. meeting for early enrollees. A source also confirmed that Kiel was not yet enrolled in classes at LSU.

The spring semester begins on Tuesday, and students have until Jan. 26 to add classes.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Scout.com’s Dave Berk tweeted (@DMBerk), “Very good source just informed that ND players have been told Kiel to be in class on Tuesday (in South Bend).”

Top quarterback prospect Gunner Kiel switches from LSU (via Indiana) to Notre Dame. I'm sure good old Beetface will ruin him emotionally in no time.

I lol'd

Can someone tell me why this kid is hyped to the point that ESPiN feels the need to have it as a top story?

Because it involves the ESS EEE SEE, and the only thing that could possibly get more hype than that....NOTRE DAME! You know, the place where a guy can be on a losing team but win the Heisman!

Sucks that Indiana couldn't keep him committed. It would have been nice to see them work towards being competitive again.

I have no idea why anyone would choose to play for Kelly. He looks like an idiot on the sidelines.

I never understood the hatred towards Notre Dame? Maybe its because I was not alive when they were in their prime. I liked the movie Rudy and have never had anything against them. They also are certainly not a threat to Ohio State. Their fans are annoying, but other than that I dont get the beef. I actually took a visit there and though the school was nice

It's pretty much their fans. They call Urban Meyer a liar, and talk about character issues all the while acting as if Kelly is a saint.

.. and the real Rudy was recently convicted of fraud.

Johnny Hooker: "He's not as tough as he thinks". Henry Gondorff: "Neither are we".

So you didn't get to see just how obnoxious their fans are, and the degree that they will be hyped by the media as soon as they win more than 2 games in a row. And how just playing for them gives you a chance to win the Heisman (Paul Hornung). Or how just being an average quarterback, but you play for Notre Dame, means people think you will win 3 Heismans.

1995, 1996 and the 2006 Fiesta Bowl felt REALLY good.

Well they have refused to join the B1G for the last several years despite it being a very mutually beneficial proposition.  So I think some people just think they see themselves as better than everyone else, they are too good to join a conference.  Also by being Independent they kind of end up being everyone's rival.  Obviously our rivalry with them is limited since we play them once every couple of decades, but they are a big name that people like to beat (and have done so quite often over the last few years).

Also this is the second heartbreaking decommit for LSU in the last couple weeks.  Obviously Kiel is a bigger name, but they had an O-lineman who was committed just enroll early at Auburn seemingly out of the blue.  In both of these cases, I wonder how much heads up Miles had because the media didn't seem to know and with people like Alex sniping every scoop out there it is hard to keep things under wraps for long.

Not exactly, they told kid he could not early enroll, he had to pay his way for the spring. Auburn had an opening to early enroll, so he took it. LSU turned the kid away. Not out of the blue.

I have a couple friends who are die hard ND fans and pretty cool guys, but every fanbase has their turds. My friend hates the fact that people think all ND fans look down their nose at everyone else. He's like many of us I suppose, a loyal fan, but a fan of all of college football.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
