Ohio Stadium Expansion?

I'm no expert on the subject, but architecture & stadium capacity & all those things that others may find boring are some of my interests. Based on Zach Smith's tweet about the HorseShoe changing forever & the specific use of the words "Numero Uno", I do believe that Ohio Stadium will be expanding. I happened to read many comments from people who don't think the structure of Ohio Stadium can hold more seats, so just to do something interesting, I decided to make this post explaining how I think it will be done. If we do expand the stadium, I think we'll do it the same way that Nebraska is expanding the east stands of Memorial Stadium to increase the capacity from 81,000 to 87,000. And as many would think, I do believe that expansion is most likely to take place in the south stands where the scoreboard is at. We would just build a new facade outside of the south stands, there-fore allowing the stands to expand out & grow taller in the process as seats are added to increase capacity. The old facade will most likely still exist as a large lobby when the new facade becomes the exterior of the south stands. I'm not the best at explaining this, but I hope the links below will help explain what I mean. Keep in mind that the east & west sides of Memorial Stadium were designed to resemble Ohio Stadium.

Why does it make so much sense to me?

  • Ohio State is the 3rd largest public university campus by enrollment in the country, & has the largest fan base in college football. So there's more than enough people to fill the seats.
  • Ohio State is raising ticket prices. I don't know all the specifics, but it could be used to help fund expansion, maybe that was part of the plan all along.
  • Ohio Stadium is the 4th largest stadium in college football by capacity. Who's number 1? None other than Michigan. And as we all know, we want to beat Michigan in every way we can. And when you consider we have a larger fanbase, campus enrollment & more recent success on the field, it just makes sense that we have the bigger stadium. It's likely Michigan won't consider expansion to retake that spot because they want to keep the traditional bowl structure of their stadium.
  • We've been setting spring game attendance records like crazy, the demand is high
  • It will leave no doubt that Ohio Stadium is the most intimidating atmosphere in college football by far & impress recruits. It will help the team win games by creating a more hostile environment for visiting teams & help lure more top recruits to OSU. Also, imagine if instead of simply making the south stands a taller version of what they currently are, we add another deck to the south stands. That would make Ohio Stadium a double deck stadium all the way around, imagine how insane the gameday atmosphere would be then. Visiting teams wouldn't know what to do, just all Buckeyes as far as the eye can see.

So that's my view on the subject. I hope you at least enjoyed reading this & found it interesting.

Saban to the NFL?

I've got The Herd playing on ESPNU, & according to Collin Cowherd, there's rumors of Nick Saban leaving Alabama for the NFL again. They think the Browns might actually go after him at the end of the season. To me, that would make sense since cleveland has his former RB Trent Richardson, a potential franchise QB in Weeden, & most importantly, the makings of a potentially great Defense. So basically we have everything he would be looking for, & you can't underestimate the value of Joe Thomas & Alex Mack, Saban loves to have a good O-line. He would know all about how to put Richardson in the best posistion to be successful, & that would make Brandon Weeden even better. I really think this could happen, & I wouldn't beleive Saban if he says it wont happen. Remember that he told all the media that he wouldn't be leaving the NFL to coach the Crimson Tide. Cowherd also makes a good point as well: Saban runs an NFL style defensive scheme & offense. He wanted to bring Drew Brees to Miami when he was the coach, but they gave him Dante Culpepper. The fanatasism in Alabama has already reached levels where he really can't even go to the supermarket, he has an eye for talent, & he's just better suited for the NFL. He just didn't get the QB he wanted. I know he's not the best guy character wise, but he runs a hell of a football team. This would be good for the Browns & Ohio State when it comes to recruiting. All we can do is hope Meyer never pulls something like that.

Best Twitter Profile Ever, Random Question

 https://twitter.com/JabbatheHoke

I found this twitter profile today, & I thought it was pretty good. I figured some people on this site would really enjoy this, & that the world in general just needs to know about it. In order to post this, I have to have a minimum of atleast 200 words. So, since I can't think of anything good to say & pressing the same key 200 times would make me look crazy, I'll just make up a random question:

How does Brady Hoke spend his free time?

A) Eating while he continues an intense poke war with Denard Robinson on Facebook (Denard has to poke back, or he's off the team)

B) Calling Rich Rodriguez to talk about his feelings & the latest episode of Glee

C) Posing for photos in the mirror with his stomach fat rolled up to resemble celebrity faces. (While he wears sunglasses of course)

D) Other (Feel free to post below)

I realize this could just be the most pointless blog post anyone on this site will ever see, but I guess we all need a way to lighten up a bit after this weeks poor defensive performance at Indiana. Seems to me like everyone's a bit on edge about that lately, although for good reason.

Is it safe to say we have an explosive offense?

After checking some articles, I discovered that both the 2005 & 2006 Florida Gator teams never scored more than 49 points, other than a 62-0 victory over Western Carolina when the Gators were ranked #3. So seeing as how Urbans first year as head coach has already produced a 56 point game & this most recent 63 point game over Nebraska, I think we may be on track to become an even more explosive offense than Urban's Florida Gator teams. Keith Marshall & Todd Gurley are both Freshman putting up big numbers for Georgia, how much better will this Buckeyes offense be next year if Ezekiel Elliott, Jalin Marshall, or any other unforeseen future commit produce at the same level for us? I'm very excited, to think that we don't even have the spread option down yet is just scary.

ON A SIDE NOTE: 63 points. That's awesome, there were about 3 times I was hoping we would go for 2, even if it made no sense to do so. Even in the end, right before we got that last TD, I was alittle mad that we didn't appear to be passing it, but I was pleased with the rushing TD. Here's hoping that the Buckeyes run up the score some more, it's nice to see us assert dominance over other teams like that. This offense may just be hitting it's groove after this game, Indiana is in over their heads next Saturday.
