The last 24 hours have been good to the basketball Buckeyes, but things got even better today, as Amir Williams has signed a national letter of intent with Ohio State. Williams, a 6-10/220 center from Detroit Country Day School, became the fifth member of the class of 2011, joining LaQuinton Ross, Shannon Scott, Sam Thompson, and fellow Michigaan native, Trey McDonald.
Thad Five Part II is now complete and ends with a bang. The #2 ranked center and top 50 player in the nation chose OSU over Florida, but also had Michigan, Purdue, and DePaul in his final five. With Dallas Lauderdale graduating and Jared Sullingerlikely going to the NBA after this season (especially if he keeps up his current play), Williams was a must-get for the staff in their quest to fill out the expected departure in the front court. Williams and McDonald will team up with Evan Ravenel and DeShaun Thomas (hopefully) to provide Thad Matta with some grunt work in the paint next season.
This is a great day to be a Buckeye basketball fan, and imagine how much better things could get if Sullinger and company stay around for another year. Thad Matta continues to prove he belongs in elite company when discussing college basketball coaches, as he brings yet another great recruiting class into Columbus next season.
