After an unforgettable rivalry day, Ohio State finds itself No. 2 in the latest human polls and on the brink of the national championship game.

It sets up another intriguing Championship Saturday this week. The Big Ten, SEC and ACC championship games will decide who plays in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 6.

Auburn AD Jay Jacobs is already lobbying for the SEC champion to appear in Pasadena. but the biggest problem both Tigers are facing is that loss in the record column.

“An SEC team can’t get left out of the (championship game) with one loss,” Jacobs told Dan Wolken of USA Today. “We just beat the No. 1 team in the nation, and a team ahead of us struggled [yesterday]. And a one-loss SEC team that wins in Atlanta — if it’s us or Missouri — you can’t get left out of the BCS after you beat the No. 1 team. We have a better argument because we beat the No. 1 team.”

Jacobs also said it would be a “disservice to the nation” if a one-loss Auburn team was left out of the title game.

The BCS standings will be released tonight at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Much like politics appearing on 11W, I very much dislike politics in college football.

So by default, I very much dislike Jay Jacobs right now.

I tend to agree. Luckily, we have a very good politician in Urban himself. If OSU wins out, he won't let an undefeated Big Ten team miss out on the National Championship.

Hovenaut's picture

Urban worked things pretty well in 2006, but I digress.
Jacobs just comes off like a used car salesman.

Jacobs just comes off like a used car salesman.

That's exactly what I thought when I read about his thoughts. The "disservice to the nation" part was particularly cheap.

Especially since Auburn lost to an average LSU team and needed 2 miracle finishes to remain a 1 loss team.

As long as Auburn isn't #1 in the computers and we are no lower than #3 in the computers.

In the Pure ELO sagarin ratings we are #3 and Auburn is #6.
He has northern illinois #2.
It will be interesting to see the rest of the eggheads ratings.

The sense of entitlement from auburn's AD is disgusting. I like to believe it is an uncorrupt system but who knows what will happen.

GO BUCKS

The ESPN guys (palmer and kanell) were laughing at him today on Sportscenter so there is some sanity in that world at least.

As things stand now, if Auburn didn't lose to a 3 loss LSU team that barely beat a pretty bad Arkansas team then they would have an argument.  However, they did lose.  The regular season is like a playoff in college football.  It's not the NFL where so many teams get in and a 6 loss team can get hot and win the Super Bowl.  Next year it will change a bit with the 4 team playoff, but that is for next year.  Right now it is OSU and FSU, but still a lot of football to be played in the Championship games.
Just prepare for Sparty because MSU's defense is very good.  We can't think we have the NC game in the bag.  Got to play a lot better!  I know the Bucks can do it!!

Actually it goes like this.... Ala lost Aub., Aub. lost to LSU, LSU lost to Ole Miss, Ole Miss lost to Miss St., Miss St. lost to Okie St. So, by the Auburn AD's "logic" the other OSU should be in the BCS Champ. Game because they're obviously better than anyone in the SEC (not to mention Baylor).

Well you actually have to take it a few steps further. Now Okie St. Lost to West Virginia, who lost to Maryland, who lost to Syracuse, who lost to Northwestern, who was sent into a spiral of failure by a football team that God, Christ, and the Holy Ghost cheer for, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Go Bucks, God Bless, and I'll see you all in Pasadena.

The answer may not be at the bottom of a bottle, but it never hurts to check.

Up votes for that ^^^!  The trickle down theory works for me!

If Auburn wanted to guarantee a place at the table, maybe they should not have lost.   Hell, they almost lost to Georgia AND Alabama.    Don't get me wrong, Auburn is a fantastic football team but as everyone knows, if you lose you are screwed.   Same thing goes for the B10 championship game OSU loses, then they don't deserve to go...simple as that.

That being said, I still think Auburn got screwed in 2004.  They deserved to play against USC.  The disservice was then...not now.

ih8rolltyde's picture

I go to my grave believing Auburn was done a service by not experiencing the thrashing that year.

I wrote that, then looked the wins up (entire schedule). I have changed a 9 year belief that Auburn didn't earn their way into that game. That said, that USC team was NASTY.

I love how their overlooking Mizzou, Their so run first/only on Offense it's shocking the Tide couldn't stop them, it pretty much solidified everyone's thoughts that hey you know Bama isn't as good as they have been the last few years!

Sorry but the rest of the nation got left out when we all had that Bama-LSU rematch shoved down our throats so if the SEC is left out - AWESOME.

Knarcisi's picture

Yeah, for one of the worst national championship games we've ever seen.

RedStorm45's picture

Yes, we're #2, but we are dangerously close to #3.  Gotta think a top 5 win (for either Mizzou or Auburn) will only close that gap.  Gotta see how the computers shake out.

ih8rolltyde's picture

MSU at 10 should mitigate that

The computers seem to weigh losses more heavily than the human polls do, and that is where the biggest gap between OSU and Auburn was last week, and it should stay that way.

...and Michigan still sucks.

Bubba 81's picture

I still can't believe we are here ranked #2. After all the BuckHate from everyone outside BuckeyeNation, I was preparing myself for a Rose Bowl trip. Amazing. When we beat SpRty and ESPN realizes we are in the NCG, and that the one loss SEC isn't going to NCG...watch how quickly the narrative changes about Winston and he should not play in the NCG and that FSU should not go.
