Championship game lines are out and Ohio State opens as nearly a touchdown favorite – 6.5 points to be exact – over Michigan State in Saturday's Big Ten Championship game. Barring a huge move in the other direction, this will be the 13th time in 13 games that the Buckeyes have been favorites this season.

In other championship game lines, Auburn opens as a 2.5-point favorite over Missouri in the SEC Championship Game and Florida State opens as a 27.5-point favorite over Duke in the ACC Championship Game.

Mizzou will beat Auburn because Mizzou has a better defense than Bama. Mizzou would have beaten Bama too. Auburn will not get the fluke play at the end necessary to win because they will be down at least 2 possessions, and thus, won't be in reach to win the game.
The whole premise that: "Auburn beat the #1 team so they deserve to be in the top 2", is flawed because Alabama was not an elite team. Alabama was not as great as the media hacks portrayed; I've been saying this all season long. And, yes, Ohio State would beat Alabama.

I am so excited for this game.  Just keep winning and let the chips fall where they may.
This is a great time to be a Buckeye!

If OSU beats MSU, and even if FSU beats Duke...then we should jump FSU and be #1.
People give us crap about our strength of schedule, but, please --- the ACC is worse than the B1G.
I would take MSU & Wiscy (despite their loss to PSU), against the #2 & 3 ACC teams.
FSU's out-of-conference schedule was weak too.
If we beat a top 10 MSU team, which happens to have the #1 D in the country, then YES, we do deserve that top spot.

We'd have to win by a few TDs and hold them to less than 10 points. Our defense has to rebound big time. Michigan State's offense wont be like Michigan's was but man do we have holes in the secondary. IMO, IF OSU were to win and get into the National Title game, I'd prefer to be #2 and people hate all over us, Urban could play that card all damn bowl practice and get the boys motivated to shut everyone up. We ate a huge piece of humble pie yesterday and refocusing this team would be ideal.

I'm bringing a dozen roses to Indy next week.  If Sparty manages the upset, I plan to graciously hand them to a kid Sparty fan so that he or she can celebrate properly.  Of course, even if Ohio State wins, I think Sparty gets the Rose Bowl bid anyway, so maybe I'll share half of them before the game.  B1G class, baby!

Obviously what we have here is a team with an excellent offense and a somewhat shaky (at times, other times quite good) defense going against a team with an excellent defense and a somewhat shaky (at times, other times quite good) offense.  Reminds me of when I was a kid and the Superman comics posed the question "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?".  Gotta keep it real, I am VERY nervous about this game.  Think our secondary is going to have to somehow get that right balance of not over pursuing yet not laying off too much (easier said than done) and Braxton needs to be able to throw the shorter and intermediate passes a little better than yesterday.  The screen passes from TTUN nearly killed us yesterday, you know MSU is going to be using that strategy.  However ... In Urban We Trust ... GO BUCKS!

Hard to believe we have had to wait this long to watch our Buckeyes in the B1G Championship. Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

On the one hand, Missouri hasn't needed constant miracles to win (and actually got a bad break in their one loss). On the other hand, Auburn's offense putting 28 on the board against Bama is a lot more impressive than Mizzou scoring 28 on Texas A&Sieve.
I give a slight edge to Auburn.
As for our game, I like us narrowly as well, but having a game after Michigan is really a great unknown.

Hoping for a good game Saturday.

On both sides of the ball.

With no injuries.

Go Buckeyes.

I hate to think this way, but what happens if we lose to MSU? Both teams having one loss and then MSU holding the tie breaker over us, wouldn't they go to the rose bowl (BCS-NCG would be out of the picture for us)? If so, would we even go to a BCS bowl?

Nutinpa's picture

Yes.   IF...Sparty wins....they go to the Rose Bowl.  No question about that.
I would guess, the Buckeyes may go to the Fiesta or another BCS Bowl game as a one loss team with a huge following.  And yes, any shot at the NCG goes right out the door.
The other possibility is the Cap One game vs. an SEC team, but that is, presumably a much smaller payday.

The winner of the B1G championship game automatically goes to the Rose Bowl, regardless of record (reference Wisconsin last year, who had finished 3rd in the Leaders Division, but due to OSU's and PSU's ineligibility, they got to play for it).  So, think of it as a 1-game play-in for the Rose Bowl.
We'd probably still go to a BCS bowl in my estimation (Ohio State is just a massive name with a massive fanbase that travels better than everyone).  And which one will depend on the at-large pecking order of the bowls.  I'm not sure what that will be.

NW Buckeye's picture

The B1G champion gets the bid to the Rose Bowl unless it is in the NCG.  There are no guarantees after that.  The runner up in the B1G championship game or the next best B1G could get a Rose Bowl bid,  but if the Champion goes to the NCG (in this case it is only OSU that could do that) the Rose Bowl is free to invite the next best team from the national pool when they select.  Because of their tie in to the Pac12 and the B1G it is assumed that it would be the next best team from either conference if the conference champion goes to the NCG, but there is nothing binding for that to occur.

If tOSU can remain in the top 5, then we should get a BCS at large.

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!

Go1Bucks's picture

OSU will badly need a defensive plan for Sparty.  Luke cannot be left to do this. Prevent D/zones do not work and if this didn't sink yesterday, it never will. Blitzing was in short supply and adjustments were missed... Who is in the booth?!
Additionally, if Braxton cant pass when needed, why not platoon?  Braxton is coming back and wont need stats, and Kenny G is the better passer.  If not against Sparty, then for NCG if we go.  As a coach, Meyer should consider all alternatives.
I tried not to complain, to be grateful we won,  but i do not think there is an excuse for our play yesterday (they had weeks to prepare, thats what assistants and practice team) are for, and there should be none for next week. We cant have a repeat.  We have known who we playing for a month in Big CG.
Ok, mini rant complete. Go Bucks!

It would be nice if our Buckeyes would TCB against Sparty, then play and dismantle an SEC team in the NC Game. That's something that would shut the critics up, but a NC title is an NC title.
I'd just like to see the schadenfreude, personally.
