Jim Tressel, Archie Griffin and E. Gordon Gee on The Game

From Buckeye TV comes this delightful little diddy featuring some of the bigger characters of Buckeye lore.

Tressel on his first Michigan game:

“That week of the game, it was almost like something took you over if you were a participant. I remember going the stadium at the Big House and the entire first quarter of the game, I was kind of like despondent. I was no help whatsoever as a coach.”

On recruiting Braxton Miller:

“I remember watching Braxton in ninth grade in our youth camp and I remember going up to him and telling him, ‘Hey, are you going to be ready to take over for Terrelle Pryor?’ and he was in ninth grade then, and he said, ‘Absolutely,’ so yeah, I'm very proud of those young men.”

The Vest, Archie and President Gee are pretty close to a holy trinity of Ohio State greatness.

Excellent choice in anointing the trio "A Holy Trinity," because I'm pretty sure that any trinity excluding one Wayne Woodrow Hayes is not "The  Holy Trinity of Ohio State"

I was intentionally very, very careful for just that reason :)
We could offer this instead:

  • The Father: Wayne Woodrow Hayes
  • The Son: Urban F. _eyer
  • The Holy Ghost: James Patrick Tressel

I think this is just a little _ore fitting. Works either way, though.

That's a good alternative - I tend to think of Woody as the Father of all things Ohio State (though perhaps Paul Brown deserves that distinction as the patriarch of Ohio football), and I was channeling The Vest as the Holy Ghost since he left us before his ti_e, and his spirit still watches over the progra_ today.
Works either way :)

Thanks for the daily reminder as to why I love Jim Tressel.

Tressel asking a 9th grade Braxton if he would be ready to take over for Terrelle...
What a beautiful thought...

This gave me chills. When they talk about overlooking This Game, I think of how Urban Meyer has continued to emphasize the importance, as did the Vest. We might get upended by historically great play from TTUN, or from some freak occurrences on our end, but I cannot imagine this team playing flat or choking. Some have been preparing several years for this, and the Frosh are getting a crash course this week. It is going to be fantastic! Go Bucks, 100 hours until kickoff!

Respectfully,

Jim Tressel is the reason I'm the Buckeye fan I am today. Hearing him say that line about Braxton gave me chills.

Tressel has always been an idol for me, someone I look up to as an example. Nothing has changed in that regard for me over the last few years.

Speaking of ghosts, how white will the TTUN fans turn if they see Tress walk in? I'd give anything to see that.

NOTHING can get you pumped up more than watching Tressel's speech at the hoops game before he took over as coach.  Inspiring to Bucks everywhere i would say
