Duke — Yes, Duke — Beats #14 Virginia Tech

By DJ Byrnes on October 26, 2013 at 7:12p
New coach next year when the Buckeyes play?

Oh boy, this is awkward. Duke beat Virginia Tech today, 13-10. Yes, that's right... Virginia Tech could only muster 10 points against the pitiful defense of the Blue Devils. (Duke mustered a mighty 198 yards to secure the win.)

The coaching situation will certainly be worth watching in Blacksburg going forward.

Great - just we when need to care about the Hokies, they start a dumpster fire.

We're just on a roll since 2006 with marquee non-conference games.  That's an arguement that we need to be scheduling 2 or 3 quality opponents, maybe at least 1 or 2 pan out to do us some good.

Totally agree - swing for the fences.

We get Bama on the schedule for 2029 only to find out that Lane Kiffin is the coach and they go 4-8...

Wait...basketball season started?

That's a pretty low scoring BBall game . . .

They keep this up they likely won't be ranked when we play them, either.

VT was the most overrated team besides Texas Tech
Looks like it's going to be another failed try at scheduling a good OOC team next year

Beamer isn't under fire here, yet.
VT can still win the Coastal and face FSU for the conference title.

This. And their defense could actually be good enough to pull it off if the offense can manage to not trip over its own feet.
VT, Michigan State, and Florida are basically the same teams. They're all top 10 defenses when healthy (top 5, probably), but you'd never know it because it's offset by being completely miserable offensively.

I don't know that Bud Foster (coach in waiting, I think) will be better than Beamer.  He may capitilize on lightning in a bottle, but he isn't the long term solution , there.
Va Tech is probably our key to S.O.S. next year.

Foster should be about as smooth of a transition as you could ask for with him being on the staff for so long. They'll probably still have a rock star defense and who knows, maybe he won't be afraid to go after a coordinator with some sort of creativity on offense.

And yet another Alabama "signature win" bites the dust.

I'm a little more concerned about our 2014 SOS taking a shit. Already.

We can't stop here; this is bat country...

That was the sec's best ooc win this year, bammer over v-tech.

The Big Ten is always going to be key to our strength of schedule. As long as the conference continues to struggle, there's not much we can do, because there are only so many big-name nonconference opponents any team ever schedules.
Duke was about as inept on offense today as a winning team ever gets. According to ESPN, they are the first team all season to win a game without converting even one third down. Their QB was sub-Bauserman level: 7-25 with 4 interceptions. They gained a combined total of 2 yards on their final 5 drives. And they won.

Remember when that VaTech QB was going to be a #1 pick in the draft?  He also threw 4 picks today. IIRC.

NoVA teens. How naive.

The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.

I watched the last quarter of this game, Duke sucks. They couldn't give the game away. It was really bad football. Terrible play calling, miss managed clock, delay of game on critical down to run out clock..... UGLY.

Sad day for the Hokies getting beat by Jed Clampett's dog.

Guys, relax.  VaTech does this every year.  They'll be an ACC favorite next season.
