The Dubgate Shrugs, Tunes in Anyway

By Jason Priestas on September 21, 2013 at 6:00a

Ohio State will face Florida A&M at noon today (BTN) in the biggest mismatch in school history – well, at least according to Vegas. The Buckeyes are favored by a mere 50 points over the Rattlers, and that spread is the largest on record since sports books starting digitizing records in the 1980s.

Florida A&M is not just an FCS team, they're a bad FCS team.

Not only is today's opponent underwhelming, but The Marching 100, Florida A&M's legendary band, is not making the trip to Columbus. If you ever wanted to multitask during an Ohio State game, today may be your best chance.

Still, there are more than a few reasons to tune in and pay attention:

  • Is this the week Dontre Wilson finally breaks off a 50+ yard touchdown?
  • Will Kenny Guiton ever look mortal again?
  • Who will be the second running back to get a carry? The third? The fourth?
  • How quickly will Urban Meyer empty his bench to get reserves quality playing time and rest his starters for the looming clash with Wisconsin?
  • Can Ohio State pitch a shutout?

This week is ass, but here's quick look at today's games of national and #B1G interest.

It is a real shame that their band isn't making the trip- recent trouble aside, that would have been a real treat for those in attendance.

A man got to have a code...

Yes, it's a shame.  I loved seeing Ohio University's band dance into the shoe.  Really a cool contrast with our military style band.  One of my favorite skull sessions of all time, too.

I was really looking forward to the band too!  (I can't believe I said that out loud.)

I saw them a week or so ago on TV. It was alright. Nothing to get too excited about.

I am D-Day0043 and I approve this message.

Please tell me we are never scheduling one of these again...especially not in SOS playoff era.

Not much to get excited about with those listing but im sure we will get one surprise upset.
Hey uconn and SCum have something in common, both losing to an FCS school.

Michigan Sucks!

looks like the Football team is being outrecruited by the marching band.  Look at the hip wiggle action... not sure if I am coming to see a football game or half time for the Drumline!

Scheduling a team for their Band is like going to a concert for T-shirt.  When they don't show up it is like you are fat and they only have little girl sizes.

Be nice for the D to shut this clown show down.

Who has the call on BTN today?

BoFuquel's picture

Get ready to watch A-HI-A State with Glen Mason. Hey it was the way Woody said it. GO BUCKS!

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

Will you watch (A) Aurburn/LSU or (B) MSU/ ND this evening?
B for me.

BuckeyeMark's picture

That looks like a flip back and forth deal until one game establishes itself as the one to watch.  If Aubie could be competitive with LSU I'd stay with that one - love to see the Mad Hatter get beat.  He is on his home turf however (munch, munch).
I don't think ND is very good - Dantonio & Co ought to get'em.

FAMU & BCC bands are way overrated. If you watch the GIF of the Rattler drum major above, you've pretty much seen their "moves". If you're into watching 150 people do hip thrusts for 10 minutes then more power to you. Now, if they let you on the hazing bus it could be a different story. Scheduling a less than crappy team for a slightly better than crappy band is great! I'm sure the BCS pollsters and computers will take that into account.

The second half of this game will be treated like a preseason NFL game. Can't wait until next week.

Only 50 point favorites today?  Who set up the world's easiest schedule for OSU?

Norwalk's picture

i guess, but Buffalo and Florida A&M were already on our schedule before Vandy pulled out and we added San Diego State. I heard the BTN announcers say that FAMU was added because of Vandy. Not true, FAMU was scheduled in 2011.

I think Army may have backed out of a home and home series and that resulted in FAMU?

Buckifan4Life's picture

Let's not forget that Vanderbilt was supposed to be playing us this week. Can we get an SEC team for a home and home, please...

Go Bucks!

Seattle Linga's picture

The powers of SEC would never leave their comforts especially in late October or November. They would not know how to play in the cold weather. Getting exposed would be detrimental.

BeijingBucks's picture

This is so true.  In fact I saw somewhere (prolly ESPN I am sad to say) where the writer's base for what was wrong with the SEC was a)They had no Defense anymore [true] and b) they had traveled out West!
