Former Ohio State offensive lineman Mike Adams was stabbed in an apparent robbery attempt in Pittsburgh, the Steelers reported. The tackle is resting in an area hospital. The team said he will make a full recovery.

No other details of the incident have been released.

"We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning," Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said. "We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery."

Adams was a second-round pick of the Steelers in the 2012 draft. He played in 10 games last season, including six starts. He was the recipient of the Joe Greene Performance Award, given to the outstanding Steelers rookie.

I wonder where this took place.  Convenient store?  Gas Station?

Okay. Does this sound a little odd? You're out to rob somebody at knife point and you pick...Mike Adams. Who is as big as a house. How big of a knife do you have? What, there is no one a little smaller you can rob? Who might be a little more, I don't know, intimidated? Look at the picture of him in that dumb Steelers throwback. Are you going to tell him that jersey is lame? Of course not. He'll squash your head.
Just wondering if there is something more to it. "An apparent robbery attempt". Money was involved, for sure. What does "earlier this morning mean"? Coming out of a club? Or going to get coffee and a head start on that Saturday morning work out?
Developing story.

There are plenty of robbery attempts on NFL players.  Its because thieves know they have money.  A knife and multiple thieves is an equalizer even if you are 300+ lbs.

A knife tends to be an equalizer when it comes to physical prowess..... even so I doubt they would have robbed him if they knew who he was. All the robber saw was the fancy apartment. Not the guy inside it.

Ok, a couple things on this: I live near Pittsburgh, and the South Side is becoming worse and worse. It's basically Carson Street, which is a long strip of a bunch of bars for about a mile straight, and mainly college age people/people in their 20s live there. For whatever reason, there's been more and more crime there the past 5-7 years. It's not as bad as certain parts of Chicago where there murder all the live long day, but there are occasional robbery attempts, stabbings, shootings, etc..
Sidenote: I actually met Mike at a bar in the South Side last fall...he's seems like a really nice kid. The crazy part about that night was -- it was the same night that Steelers rookie NT Alameda Ta'amu was arrested for trying to evade police, (http://deadspin.com/5951573/reports-pittsburgh-steelers-nt-alameda-taamu...), my friend and I were walking down a side street in the South Side and this Ta'amu character was flying up a 1-way street going about 60 mph, with cops chasing him. It was crazy. He's really fortunate he didn't kill a bystander. I think he should still be in jail, personally.
Anyways, back to Mike Adams...the story is: he was walking to his car and 3 or 4 guys were trying to steal it, so he tried to stop them and was stabbed. I agree with "KingJamborah" above, when I first read that Adams was robbed, I thought why the hell would you try to rob a 6'7", 320 pound man? But, so far, it seems it as more a case of some thugs trying to steal a car and Adams happened to catch them and in the midst of it all -- he was stabbed.
I'm glad to hear he's okay...but like Woody used to tell his players: "Nothing good happens after midnight" ... (especially in the South Side). I was sticking up for a friend, and got in a fight there back in '05. I punched a guy and knocked him down. I thought I knocked him out, so I leaned down to check him out, then the next thing I know --- boom --- rolling rock bottle to the side of my head. Had to get 5 stitches and 5 staples...the little rats got away without getting arrested. Anyways, be careful out there...lot of crazies nowadays.
One last thing, as a Steelers fan and just as a person in general --- those Steelers throwback uniforms (Adams is pictured in one) are the ugliest uniforms I've ever seen in my life.
I hope Mike recovers just fine. I know he loves playing for the Steelers, and much like after he came back from the suspension in 2011 for the Buckeyes, when started at RT for the Steelers last season --- the running game improved. He's got a bright future ahead of him.

Thanks for give us more info on the story and the link. I am curious, is the South side and this strip of bars you are referring to the same area where you can get a Permanti's brother sandwich, has a high school close by and some nice shopping malls up the street. If so I've been there before and I can agree that area is not exactly safe.

Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see.

Sure ... yeah, there is a Primanti's on Carson, right in the middle of the South Side. The original Primanti's is in the Strip District.
I believe they'll catch the guys that did this, I think one of the criminals left their cell phone at the scene of the crime. This happened at 3 a.m.; Mike's a grown man and lives not far from the S. Side, but that is one place not to be at 3 in the a.m..
Prayers Mike makes a full recovery.

I guess times are rough so rough and there was no one else around to rob. I personally wouldn't even have to balls to ask him for a quarter

I'm glad to hear the prognosis is good and wish him a speedy recovery.  But what kind of moron attempts to rob a man that size?

God speed for a quick recovery Mike.

Get well soon big Mike!
I hope he starts carrying a registered firearm from now on.
It's a mad, mad world out there today ... especially if you're an athlete with money or a celebrity -- as a target, you gotta have a gun for protection!

I'm just happy to be here

This cracked me up. Ramzy you did it again.

There aren't enough drugs in the world to make robbing Mike Adams seem like a good idea.

Praying for Mr. Adams. I know it says he will make a full recovery, but still praying for him.

I was on the South Side Saturday night and I left Carson City at 2am. Big Mike was there, I walked past him, said Go Bucks and he reached out his bear sized paw and game me a fist pump and said F$&k Yeah Go Bucks. So sometime after 2am, this incident occurred. Kind of a surreal thing.

I used to live just off of Carson Street on 18th. Recently moved to shadyside. At first I enjoyed Carson street, and then so much sh*t started hapopening late at night and it turned pretty bad. There was a drug raid at a tattoo parlor, i believe, a gun fight two years ago where someone had an AK, some dude got 'cut off' by a guy on a bicycle, so he followed him and slit his throat, had some random person try to lure a girl I knew who was hammered into an alley, stole her purse, etc.
I just do not like Carson street anymore after living right in the heart of it for two years. Shadyside is much more my scene. And I enjoyed going to Carson city every once in a while, especially with my Browns Jersey ;)

Thanks, Bucks43201, and thanks, all, for the info. Latest story I read, there were multiple (4?) robbers trying to jack his truck but he didn't have his keys, or said he didn't have his keys, which took balls, so one of the dudes pointed a gun at his face while the other one stabbed him. Twice. Here's an instance where size doesn't matter. That's just a horrible situation. You have a guy pointing a gun at your dome while another guy stabs you. You've got to be thinking you're going to die. Prayers for Mike Adams and hope he doesn't end up having nightmares about this one for years. Got crazy lucky.

Not to mention how chickensh** would you look to your guys if you were 3-4 gang members with a gun and knife and backed down against one guy? On a similar note, OSU Daughter's BF is a big guy-6'4", 230, with a sweet, calm disposition OFF the field-had smaller drunk guys at bars come and try to pick fights with him often to show that they had balls. Luckily he sidestepped the vast majority of them. So couldn't you see these guys congratulating themselves on taking down a mammoth of a guy in Adams?
