(This is a sample of Harris rapping. Do not press play. This is your only warning.) Via

Well, this doesn't happen too often:

Downingtown East star wide out Jay Harris said he decided to forego attending Michigan State on a football scholarship in order to chase his dream of being a rapper.

Harris said he told Spartans quarterbacks coach Brad Salem of the news last week. He will release a mixtape on June 1 and has a single here on YouTube. Harris conceded that his commitment during his senior year was half-heated and the only career he saw was music.

Harris originally chose the Spartans over offers from Old Dominion and Temple. Seantrel Henderson's father was unavailable for comment.

______

UH-HUH-UH-HUH-UH-UPDATE:

It appears that Michigan State may have had a hand in Harris quitting football. He has also been dropped from Pennsylvania's Big 33 roster.

Welp. Whatever makes you happy, dude.

Fo sho...BUT somebody is giving this kid bum information on life advice. Both career choices are extremely hard to make a living at but Since he had D1 schollies, I'm gonna go out on a real short limb and say he is MUCH better at football then rapping.
Heck, Krispy Kreme can spit game a helluva lot better then this kid.

Harris conceded that his commitment during his senior year was half-heated and the only career he saw was music.

Half-heated? Does that mean he was high or something?

lljjgg's picture

If I had to judge based on the video, I'd say yes.

Bucks43201's picture

Wow. You only have a short window for your football career...couldn't he do both at once, or put the rap game on hold for a few years?
I wonder if signing with a record label immediately squashes your amateur athlete status with the NCAA, LOLz.
Guess the pigskin just isn't that important to him. Oh well. Let it be noted that he made this decision AFTER Jim Bollman was named OFFENSIVE coordinator (see what I did there?)

There was an NCAA case this year about a similar situation. Minnesota wrestler put an inspirational song on YouTube and for sale on iTunes. NCAA said he was no longer eligible. NY Times article here. Stupid stupid rule, especially in the Minny wrestler's case, but such is the NCAA.

Bucks43201's picture

Wow. Too much bureaucracy.
I didn't know that...thanks

I pressed play.

Like when you're little and riding your bike, freshly free from the restraints of training wheels, and you can't avoid that mailbox.

I couldn't help it.

On the upside, I'm still not a hip hop fan. Nor have the need for bicycles any longer.

Please Jay Datbull (or is it Datbull Jay?), don't hurt 'em.

Think Dantonio said datbullsh!t.

That song was HOT GARBAGE. When he floats back down from his weed cloud, he is going to realize that he made a huge mistake.

From watching his video and looking @ this photo, I think he would've fit in okay with Sparty.

I like in the beginning, when he lets you know that he smokes weed, and then he does a French inhale, as if to say "I smoke a lot of weed." And then the nuance that very few unrefined viewers don't pick up, is when he blows smoke at the camera, as a subtle, classy reminder that he is, in fact, an enthusiast of marijuana.

Poison nuts's picture

Agreed - he has a super-dope technique there...

I like how he totally botches the French inhale attempt at the end of that garbage (and I like some rap). As if to say, "I'm a 17 year-old moron who has no clue."

I love Hip Hop.
Always have since I was 6 years old and was in the backseat of my uncles car listening to the Dayton Family, MC Breed, E40, etc.
This is the worst thing ever. I feel like my ears have been sodomized.
Terrible chocie, young man.

ATXbucknut's picture

Yeah man, I like the old school stuff too.

While scrolling through the comments I saw the top of the pic w/ Biggie's face first and thought, "What the hell." Then I scrolled a bit more and saw the caption. Hilarious! Gimme the Lute (Loot) is one my favorites from the King of NY.

"Sparty gonna Spart" rap song:

Rock out wit your green & white
Rock out wit Coach D. & the Walrus.

East Lansing gonna be hoppin tonite.
East Lansing bars gonna be filled wit ballers.

Kirk Cousins could sling that pigskin.
Kirk Cousins rarely committed a sin.

Y'all knows are offense is weak & we just hired Jimmy Bolls to take over.
Now we gonna be stuck with no ball movement...nothing can help us, not even a 4-leaf clover.

So nows are offense gonna be downright offensive,
And then our fans' whining gonna be downright extensive.

Sparty message boards were in meltdown mode when Harris & Marshall committed to scUM,
That will be nuthin' compared to the meltdown this October when the # of wins so far is 1.

The time Coach D. gonna crack a smile for more than a few seconds,
Is about the same time y'all turn to the Hokester for dieting lessons!

I'm out.

I'm just happy to be here

"stuck with no ball movement" ?   LOL
They have laxatives for that.

Didn't Thaddeus Gibson have recording equipment in his house while at OSU? I swear I saw something on TV a few years back about him and some other guys making music

If his football skills are anything like his rap skills, Sparty isn't missing out on much.

M Man's picture

I think his new rap name is gonna be "Lil' Bro."  Thi shi cray.

cal3713's picture

Maybe MSU saw the video and "encouraged" him to follow his rap dreams rather than come to campus.

EvanstonBuckeye's picture

Like bad metal, bad hip-hop is pretty awesome in its ridiculousness.

twalsh's picture

Very Sad!!! this kid has no one to lead him in a positive direction! Very Sad!!!
I don't know about the rest of you that watched the video, but I say he's no rapper.

Go Bucks!

LadyBuck's picture

I don't even know how to respond to this properly. I mean, really? Study music.

smith5568's picture

That was my thought. Why not go to school on a scholarship and study music? It is very sad.

dubjayfootball90's picture

This is ridiculous. IMO kid is making sa huge mistake. Not good rapper either

BuckeyeLawyer's picture

I can't believe this is not a joke.  This is the type of rap and rap video that ends up on Tosh.O.  I am thinking he may have been ineligible at MSU.

Maestro's picture

I forsee a long career for Datbull...........funded by the taxpayers of whatever state he lives in.
On a sidenote, I am starting to wonder if building a treehouse for my kids was a good idea.

well, that was repugnant

The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...

brband64's picture

Thank goodness the camera work and video production values were strong, otherwise dat suk.

Maestro's picture

Thought process of the Datbull entourage is so far beyond me that I think my mind might be officially blown.

vacuuming sucks

ou88bobcat's picture

Wow, I'm embarrassed for the kid and I don't even know him. If I was his parent, I'd be pissed for giving up a free college education for some bs rap career. Hopefully he'll come to his senses and stop listening to his entourage!

Idaho Helga's picture

This is what I thought.   As a parent, damn, damn, damn.  To son " And exactly WHY you couldn't pursue both?  Might it have to do with weed?   You may now pack up your basement belongings and move on, let me know how that rapper thing works out"

ATXbucknut's picture

Maybe we're being too hard on the kid.  Maybe we just don't understand rap nowadays.

Maestro's picture

Maybe so.
and maybe I will wake up tomorrow to a morning blowjob from my wife, and then when I get to work my hot co-worker will go ahead and beg me to let her suck me off, and then she will do that again after lunch, and then my wife will finish off the day with another one.
Not likely, but maybe.

vacuuming sucks

ATXbucknut's picture

That would definitely make it easy to get up in the morning.

in more ways than one i'd say

I am going to present this challenge to my wife (except have her also do the two during the work day).

Man, I sure miss Chappelle Show. Dave is the sh*t.

OSU_ALUM_05's picture

Unfortunately I pushed play.  I only made it about a minute before I had to stop.  I couldn't help thinking:  did he roll his dad's lawnmower out of the shed in the backyard, spray paint the ceiling, and then call it a cool place to shoot a rap video?  And what are the other clowns doing standing around acting cool dumb high stupid criminal ridiculous?  Weird.

acBuckeye's picture

I pushed play..... now I can't unhear what I just heard.

IBleedSandG's picture

I knew the beat would gonna suck, I knew the rhymes would suck, but I listened (for all of  58 seconds) anyway. I'd probably put this in my top 10 worst rap songs ever. Just awful. The sad thing is, he'll probably get signed at some point because 80% of hip-hop nowadays sounds like this sh*t.
I need to listen to some Wu-Tang, STAT!

Unfortunately, Harris got this backwards.  First, get famous playing sports.  Then, make bad rap music.  Maybe he's trying it in reverse?

tennbuckeye19's picture

I'm no expert, but that might be the first rap video I've ever seen without chicks in it.

tdible2132's picture

I just feel bad for this kid to be honest.  He clearly has no parents or support that is there to point him in the right direction.  Sometimes it's hard for kids to make the right decision when their biggest influence is bad friends.  From the looks of his music video, he doesn't have the best friends that will help him in the future...

OSU_ALUM_05's picture

I hear you. Someone needs to tell the kid he's turning down a free education.

Maestro's picture

Yep, that'll surely change his mind.

vacuuming sucks

GlueFingers Lavelli's picture

He's too busy with someones wife on his d*ck like a ballerina or something of that nature... with weed. That was horrible, I mean just really poor all around. A treehouse??  seriously??

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

OSU_ALUM_05's picture

It won't change is mind, but I can dream.
