THE BEAST

Last night brought the good news that Johnathan Hankins is a New York Giant, selected by the team in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft. Unless you happen to be a Redskin, Cowboy or Eagle fan, this is great news. Hankins is going to a great organization and will have an opportunity to learn from some of the best, including Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, Shaun Rogers and other proven vets.

Today, the draft concludes with rounds four through seven. Buckeyes still on the board include:

  • DE/OLB John Simon - Projected to go in the fourth round
  • OT Reid Fragel - Projected to go in the fourth or fifth rounds
  • TE Jake Stoneburner - Projected to go in the sixth or seventh rounds
  • DE/OLB Nathan Williams - Projected to maybe go in the seventh round

Look for other Buckeyes, including Zach Boren, Etienne Sabino, Travis Howard, Orhian Johnson and Garrett Goebel to receive phone calls before Monday with undrafted free agent offers.

Shux, I though Bino might slip into the 6th or 7th round.  Figured Boren might get a look too.  Good luck to em all.

I really hope my Falcons take Stoneburner in the late rounds.  We need a TE to succeed Gonzalez after this year, and I think Stoneburner is being sold WAY short.  He's got potential to be a great receiving TE in the league with a good quarterback, and I think Atlanta would be a good fit for him.

Really wanted Simon to go to the Patriots. I hope he gets a good fit so he can show his potential.

Don't give up... Don't ever give up.

With all the QBs going in the 4th Round is there any chance somebody gives Bauserman a shot?

Ready to see Simon get picked!

I admit I was totally wrong about Simon but at the same time this draft is crazy. I thought a team would take a chance on him late first round because of his great leadership and effort (at the very least he could push the more talent guys in front of him ala Rudy style) but I was way off.
but I can't believe some of these picks. Unreal! Sadly it is looking like half of the buckeyes that we thought would get drafted by the 5th-6th round might not get drafted at all. I would gladly take Fragel and Boren for my Chiefs. Boren could become a stud at ILB in a couple years and Fragel will be a starting tackle soon, maybe not this year but soon. I would like Simon but doesn't fit my Chiefs very well and they need bigger guys right now although the leadership is needed with all the talented linebackers. KC hasn't been the same since Vrabel left and that is why I think leadership is sorely undervalued. Oh well!
Hankins going to NYG is sick. He will play so well for them and is looking at a good chance to win a super bowl, every 4-5 years that is! lol
EDIT: That is why Ravens win Super Bowls. I hate that team but good luck with John Simon!

Damn, the Ravens took Simon. Although I can't stand the team he went to, it is a great fit. Best of luck to John Simon.

Anyone else wondering why Chip Kely took Matt Barkely and HOW he's going to succeed in his offensive system? I certainly am. I don't get how a team like the Chargers don't take Barkely to replace an aging guy like Philip Rivers!?

I think a lot of people mistake his offense for needing speed and running from the QB position. If you recall, he uses speed at all the other positions moreso. I think Barkley, with quick hitting passes and quick decisions could work in his offense. I don't think Barkley is a starting QB in the NFL but he doesn't necessarily not fit the system. The system needs guys like Desean Jackson more than a Micheal Vick.
of course this is all predicated that Chip Kelly's offense will work at all in the NFL.

I thought the same thing, Jason. I thought Barkley & Philly were about as good a match-up as Eva Longoria & Charlie Weis.

At least he is going as a running back. Could you imagine Brewster being his center? Sacriledge.

Did you see how obnoxious his interview was on ESPN acted like a complete jackass!! scUM at its finest!

Say what you will about the Ravens they draft extremely well and gives you insight into just how highly thought of Simon is.  It took Paul Kruger a few years to develop playing under Jarret Johnson and I see the same with Simon developing and playing behind Dummervill Suggs and McPhee.  I firmly believe John Simon will make Buckeye Nation proud and I am real suprised Fragel has yet to be selected.

Squirrel Master's picture

I would love my Chiefs to draft Fragel early in 6th round, trade Brandan Albert to Miami for their 2nd round pick next year (maybe more) and develop Fragel as the future RT. I wouldn't expect him to start right away but already have 2 possible RT on the team already. Still would love to have Fragel there as an athletic RT for zone blocking scheme.
Starting to get to players that I have no idea about. A RB from Vandy isn't on my radar much! lol
P.S. I am dying to get a buckeye on my team. Vrabel's short time there was not long enough. Can I get a buckeye drafted please!

I thought Donald Washington was with the Chiefs, or maybe they released him last year.

He was released or sent to practice squad. He didn't even get on the field at all. I guess I should have been more clear about a player that actually would play some.
but nice catch. I did forget about him getting drafted. He just didn't get much of a chance with Eric Berry and Kendrick Lewis although with Lewis's current injury history, I would take as much S help as possible right now.

If Simon can hold up physically, he should do well for the Forces of Evil.
Best B1G player still available is probably Sparty's Johnny Adams. I thought he was better than Micah Hyde, who was taken a round ago.

Looks like I was right on about Reid. I knew all that 3-4 round stuff was all bologna..I hope he gets drafted but I just don't see him being able to block NFL lineman on a consistent basis..and yes I know he did great against Willie Gholston, but he's no JJ Watt, Demarcus Ware, Vonn Miller, JPP, Aldon Smith etc etc.

BUCKEYES BABY!

buckeyenobility's picture

I'm still absolutely flabbergasted that Fragel has not gotten picked yet. So much potential with only playing one year of tackle. It takes a special kind of guy to play left tackle and it would take him some time to develop but Reid could for sure do it. Could also see Stoney get a shot with somebody with the tight end craze and Boren will be a suburb special teams player for someone.

Buckeyejason's picture

Hell Boren could be a helluva starting FullBack let alone Special Teams player!

BUCKEYES BABY!

DannyBeane's picture

I'm hoping if Fragel goes undrafted, The Bengals sign him.

buckeyenobility's picture

To be honest, Boren would have to go to a running team to be a fullback. Most teams now a days want that tight end hybrid to play fullback to catch passes. Anymore when teams need a fullback, they just bring in a extra tackle or a d lineman to block.
