Indiana's Cody Zeller to Enter NBA Draft

By Jason Priestas on April 10, 2013 at 9:53a
After two seasons in Bloomington, Indiana's Cody Zeller is headed to the NBA.

Indiana sophomore forward Cody Zeller will leave school early for the NBA, according to Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz.

Zeller averaged 16.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for the Hoosiers, earning First Team All-Big Ten and Second Team AP All-American honors. He's projected as a top-10 pick in June's draft.

He joins teammate and First Team AP All-American Victor Oladipo as early exits for Tom Crean.

Zeller finished 2-2 against Ohio State.

damn, a lot of early leavers from the B1G.... Well, good luck to them all, mostly DT though, ;)

Classy comment. BTW, just wanted to say it was great commenting with you on the basketball open pages throughout the year. Really enjoyed reading your commentary, frustrations and exciting comments all year long. Go Bucks!

Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see.

haha, you too, BME. I never really did the open threads before, but I found that to be a better outlet than yelling at the TV, swearing, and then making the children in the apartment next to mine cry at night from all my obscenities.

Old floppy mcfloppy flop is taking off?? Bye-bye...I don't love this kid a whole lot. Ever since I saw him grab that players arm & forced him to smack his own funny-zone, then ultra-flop to the ground, I lost all respect there & then. Good luck, I guess, but honestly, I'm just glad to see him go.

It must have been a tortuous decision, but clearly the NBA rang.....

Good luck to him, he is super soft so he will need to paired with a bruiser or develop a jumper from 17 feet, too be a factor in the League, Although I would not mind seeing him with my Bulls as a eventually replace to Boozer.

Replacing Boozer with an unproven rookie? Insanity.

Not next season, but going toward 2014-2015 season when it would be smart to Amnesty him.

I am absolutely shocked that the Amish dude who said he was going to stay was wrong (that was in today's skull session). Oh wait....

Glad he is leaving.  Every time I talk about Zeller, I say I think he is a good player but a bit overrated and every time I say anything like that he goes out and has a great game.  Tired of him making me look foolish.

Didn't Oladipo already declare as well? Good news for us, albeit expected news.

Zeller isn't as good as his brother and will get banged on in the NBA. There's overseas money to be had though.

If he's projected in top ten, good for him. Definitely the right decision for him personally. Good luck to him.

Good news.  Good luck to the kid.
Rumor has it that Oladipo and Zeller both wanted/needed to move on to the next level in order learn how to address that pesky 2-3 zone.

I figured it was because Crean had oversigned again.

Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...

I love the parting line of "he was 2-2 against Ohio State". haha.
good luck at the next level!

Better watch out in the NBA, all that flopping will get him fined.

Buckeyevstheworld's picture

If that was the case, the entire Clippers team and LeBron would be fined every game.

Honestly, he could have used another year in college.

Oh well, back to the BigTen basement with you Crean.

Might have helped his development but not his draft stock.  They aren't perfectly correlated.  Lots of people in this thread dismissing how good this guy really was.  Indiana will not be nearly as good next year.  He was their MVP over Oladipo even if Oladipo was the better player this year.  The soft stuff is ridiculous too considering he fouled out our entire team in February I believe.  Trey McDonald played as many minutes in that game as against Northern Kentucky.  (He also almost got a 6 trillion in that game #titus)

A lot of good players leaving.

going to miss looking at his dad.

It can't help that his last game as a collegiate player he looked almost helpless and totally overmatched against Syracuse. Whomever drafts him better be ready for a developmental project

Best of luck in your future Zeller!
I'm glad we don't have to play him anymore in the B1G.
