MASCOT ON MASCOT CRIME

This game is largely meaningless to Ohio State. Feel free to pick a mascot and go with that team. If you're still having trouble picking a side, Jim Boeheim is kind of a jerk, if that helps.

We'll be back with an open thread for tonight's main event.

I'm curious to see if Marquette is as confused by the zone and the fighting Creans were

Jason Priestas's picture

I can't imagine they will be since they see it two or three times per year.

I guess go Marquette. I feel like I just noticed two ants walking on the sidewalk and picked one to reach the next crack first.

FROMTHE18's picture

game is kind of meh to this point

Agree with the notion about Jimmy B. being a jerk

Boeheim is still a jerk.

this feels more like a 1st round game than elite 8. two teams that aren't all that flashy, and boeheim's zone just makes a game really $%#@ing boring.

CALPOPPY's picture

Yeah, but it's not boring...it's not B1G...so it's just good D. If it were B1G, it would definitely be boring.

FROMTHE18's picture

marquette has no answer to the zone or defensively right now

popeurban's picture

Not so sure it is the zone, but the length and tenacity of the cuse defenders.

Who does all the photo-shopping here it is always great.

That isn't real?  I am disappoint.  I was getting excited to watch a battle between Garuda, the mythical man eagle, and Fructose, the weird man fruit.

If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.  ~ Bruce Lee

I thought it was like the movie Stargate, except that they were playing bball rather than in the pyramids.

zoom in on a kid getting hurt and you deserve to hear him talk like a sailor on national tv

Pulling for Cuse only because I have them in a bracket draft

CALPOPPY's picture

I think I need Marquette to win if I want any chance to win the 11W bracket challenge.

I don't understand why teams are having such a hard time with the zone. I feel like a few years ago we had to play the zone because we weren't good enough to play man. But it doesn't look like Marquette can even come close to getting a good look, and Indiana certainly couldn't. What's up. Cuse scares me.

brandonbauer87's picture

We have a decent zone offense. Indiana never drive and kicked or utilized the baseline. We can do both.

Mr. Slick's picture

Indiana also doesn't have anyone with court vision like both Craft and Scott.  Court vision and anticipation is huge in breaking down a zone.

cplunk's picture

Syracuse does things with their zone that no other team does. Watch closely and you'll see that even though it is usually a 2-3, it actually sets up differently each time down the floor. The weakness is rarely in the same place on two consecutive trips down the floor. Couple that with occasional match-up zone in the midst of it a lanky players with long arm spans and you have problems.
nobody in the NCAA plays a zone with as many intricacies as Syracuse. To call it a zone like others play zone doesn't do it justice. There's a reason they've had such incredible success over the years without ever needing to play man to man.

FROMTHE18's picture

as poorly as marquette is executing their offense, they are still in this

popeurban's picture

To me they have the shots but are not hitting them.  But yeah, good news is that they are still in this.

I'm nervous. Someone hold me.

That comment + your name = creepy lol

Hah! Good point.

bit of a snoozer the last couple mins, game needs to get some flow

Vander Blue might be the coolest name ever.

This is some bad basketball.

FROMTHE18's picture

think syracuse is about to close this one out, dont see a big run from marquette the way they have been shooting

Roger's picture

I really want to play Syracuse. Would love to send them home again.

cplunk's picture

I don't ever want to face Syracuse in a one and done situation. The Bucks are way better, but it totally doesn't matter; a slightly off day shooting or a less than great day from one of the stars and you lose. They're the worst kind of team to play in a tournie thanks to their zone.

Bucksfan's picture

Aaaaand, this is why I thought some of you were out of your mind for your criticisms of Tom Crean in that forum yesterday.  The Orange are REALLY tough.

FROMTHE18's picture

length of syracuse is crazy, they can shoot too...could see them beating up florida or michigan...i like cuse in the final

rampageripster's picture

My gf is a Marquette grad.. thank god she is visiting her parents in Minnesota right now

Cause I couldn't go for three

SilverBulletNYC's picture

This game is SO boring...

The South will NOT rise again!

cplunk's picture

C'mon, man, there's a chance ONE OF THESE TEAMS COULD STILL TOP 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AndyVance's picture

Good Lord, Syracuse is barely going to crack 50 and might even hold Marquette to under 40...
