Has Amir improved? I haven't noticed and most of my game agony seems to be Amir -based.
I like to just appreciate him for the chance of offensive rebounding he gives us. Other than that, I don't expect much which helps me not blow a gasket.

I've seen the "young team" excuse in here a few times, which is sort of a default comeback when any college team is struggling, but I wonder: out of all the teams in the top 25, how many don't have a freshman or sophomore among their 3 leading scorers? (I know Wisconsin is one, but they have a system that works for them too.)
The apparent failure of the 2011 class is really going to bite next year, when we're talking NIT in mid-February.

I think this team would be damn good if DT would return. Even if he doesn't, they will still be very solid. If Sam Thompson can develop a jumper and work on his dribble drive he could easily be a star. Scott is going to be very good, already a premier defender in the nation and smart, just needs some scoring attitude. I feel Amir is about to breakout. Smith can be a David Lighty type all around solid player. Ross can be lethal.

I would be interested in how our team plays when Amir is in vs Ravenel. It seems (to me) that over the last couple of games Amir seems to give this team more confidence. Ravenel comes in and I feel like the other team makes runs. Not saying that Ravenel is to blame or anything, but I feel like we play much better with Amir on the floor.
Man this game is a stinker. This team just isn't very good at one thing..too many limited scorers which will ultimately be their demise.

This team sucks and only has one good win all season and nearly blew that one against Michigan. All other wins were against bad teams. I am surprised they are not onsidered on the bubble and as they seem to be clearly in.

On a neutral court? Every single team. This team had Duke on the ropes at Cameron Indoor. I've seen every team in the top 25 play at least once this year and every single one of them has flaws. There are very few elite teams this season. Expect to see an interesting March with a lot of upsets.
This is not the same team that played Duke early in the season. Duke would beat the team of the past 3 games by 20.

In games like this I try to appreciate the small victories. Every good rebound or good shot selction is a learning experience for March. Also that is not a foul.

Officiating isn't the reason we're getting killed, and our passive offense doesn't provoke many foul calls anyway...but for a B1G team to have 2 fouls against them in one half is pretty damn amazing.

Craft sucks. I never been a fan. His first two years I thought he sucked but we had so many scorers that people looked past his deficiencies on offense.
Without Craft we are significantly worse. He may be deficient on scoring but he does many great things for this team
He doesn't suck. Come on. He is who he is. It's not his responsibility to be a scorer. It is Matta's responsibility to understand that and to recruit a develop players that can. He brings in another point guard in Scott that is exactly the same!
I saw Craft play in high school. He was his teams leading scorer and put up 47 in the game I saw. All of these guys were scorers in high school.

I accept the Buckeyes can't score. But where did the suffocating defense go? Wouldn't it be in the best interests of an offensively challenged team to press a lot more than the Buckeyes? Couldn't that be a way to pick up some easy buckets? Athleticism is all this team has. And Thomas. Thought they'd be a 10 loss team and nothing has changed my mind.
Someone besides Craft and Smith need to play tough and smart defense. Not always bad effort, but lots of team defensive breakdowns. As for offense, nothing looks promising after DT exits for the NBA.
Agree. The Buckeyes have better athletes. Wisconsin has better basketball players. The Bucks can win if they make it an athletic contest, not a three point shooting contest. Full court pressure and tough, stifling defense is the only way this team can be successful, especially without a second scorer. Offense comes and goes, but fefense is always there with hustle and effort. If they keep trying to play a half court game against Wisconsin, they are toast.

I know we were predicted to lose this game and basically every other away game we have left, but I can't even see how we are ranked anymore...We have only beaten 1 ranked team and lost all of the others. I will be happy if we even get a 4th seed if we even make it to March.

What got this team back on track after the Illinois debacle? Defense and getting production from Scott, Ross, and Smith. Craft is an offensive liability, a great defender, and a decent rebounder for a guard. To expect him, Thomas, or Rav to be anything other than what they've been is impossible. The success or failure of the Buckeyes will be on Scott, LQ, and Amir.
What got them back on track was Purdue, Iowa, penn state, and Nebraska

Our whole defense is prone to back cuts..which causes them to not close out that aggressively on 3 point shooters.
It amazes me that this team is even still ranked. I said a couple weeks ago we were playing for a first round bye in the big ten tourney. This team simply isn't good now and isn't going to be in March. We are a six seed in both the conference and NCAA tourney. If we run in to another Utah state type team in round one then our goose is cooked in the big dance.
God help us next year if Q transfers cause unless these kids improve in yr 3 more than any other team in o state history, Thad's streak of 20 win seasons will come to an end cause we simply aren't good.

Bottom line is Thad Matta sucks as a coach and plays favorites. Wisconsin plays guys that play hard. No a bunch of Soft kids like Amir. Name one player outside of Evan Turner that has improved under thad?

Interesting comment by Brando about the "Matta coaching tree"...our current staff might be something that needs to be looked at. There's definitely reason to believe the new guys aren't nearly as effective as the ones who have moved on.

Craft has a terrible shooting form but you can't bench him because his defense is still the best in the country.

Bottom line when all your guards have no outside shot its laughable. #33 should start it gives them a player that can shoot outside and take some pressure off of Thomas.
I called Williams a creme puff last week and got yelled at on this board for being to harsh. It's not hard to dominate in high school when you are gigantic and have an albatross wingspan. Major D1 hoops is very very different. Rebounding is about desire and right now Amir doesn't have it.

If this team doesn't make some serious improvements I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even make the NCAA tournament . If they continue to play like this, they will lose out. Matta needs to make a big change somewere.

Matta's teams have never been good at free throws. We have just been able to mask it better most yrs compared to this season.

Didn't scUM just lose to MSU by like 30? Let's chillax. We beat scUM at home, got robbed at scUM, and took Duke to the final seconds. The same roster is still there...anything's possible.
