This isn't on the coaches (except maybe recruiting-wise), we just have no scoring threats. Although it seems like we don't run much of an offense, which is on Matta.

Ross looks bad today
He hasn't looked very good all season. I really think a lot of it is comfort. He knows he is only getting 5-7 minutes so either he rushes things or plays to avoid mistakes.
He just seems kind of awkward out there. Seems to be a step behind, and is very tentative with the ball in his hands.
How many times has Amir had the ball striped from his hands?? My God!! He is one of the biggest players on the court and yet he can't hold on to the ball game after game.

Jesus, we look terrible. And it's not bad shooting - it's bad offense. We're getting bad shots, shots that we shouldn't expect to make, and we're rightfully not making them.
3rd scorer? I am not convinced we have a consistent first and second scorer. Thompson shooting 30% every other night is not consistent...
Our team does excell in standing around and waiting for the man with the ball to do something.

Only consistent offense is Thomas dribbling twice and shooting a contested shot. No motion, no picks, nothing. It's worse than the NBA out there.

I have the all-american game thread open in another tab and when I first saw this I laughed because I thought you were talking about that game, then I cried when I realized you were talking about the basketball game...
And THAT is what I was trying to say above and got crapped on bad. I think that is on the coaching. It's not an attack. It's an observation.
Well part of the issue with this team is really the lack of consistent scorers other than Thomas, so he feels like he has to force shots. I am not sure how much of that is coaching and how much of it is lack of proper recruiting. I think the biggest issue is there hasn't been a lot of progress from early in the season and that is definitely on the coach to a certain degree.
We need a legitimate underneath threat bad. Amir is still a project, and Ravenel has peaked at a role player level. Thad had to know he was lucky to have had Sully as long as he did. Losing Parker to UCLA hurt.
The failure of Sibert to develop was a bad break that's going to cost this program this season and next. What he was supposed to be is the major thing we're lacking.

I DO like Thad, and DO post exuberantly when we win. I just said that he hasn't done a good job thus far this year with what he's had to work with. And let the downvotes begin. There are plenty of other posts on the thread about how poor we look, and none of them get bombed. We haven't looked good against ANY of the good teams on the schedule, and that's a fact. The B1G will be unforgiving if we don't vastly improve, and that's a fact. I'm not trying to be combative or a dick, I'm just frustrated in a year that looks like it may not produce any quality wins. Anyone confident about the scUM game this week? It's quite a departure from the last few years. How do you say we are not good and should maybe be better without getting downvote hammered?

Also, I agree with you. The way we've played against Duke, KU, and now Illinois, we are looking at a 9-9 B1G season, and I hope people realize that. Halfway through the season and we still have nothing even resembling an identity offensively
Thank you. That is all I was trying to say. I think that we have equal or better talent than most teams in the B1G, and so far have not looked coherent at all against the better teams.

Leave Q out there...let him get minutes in these meaningful games. He's got the highest ceiling on the team except for maybe Deshaun. It definately takes him a little while to get in the flow but he does get it going.

There's nothing wrong with the thinking that the losses to Duke and Kansas weren't so bad because it's all about getting the team ready for the Big Ten season and March ... except that we seem to be getting worse. In fact, this is shaping up as our worst game since the day West Virginia annihilated us.
A 1-4 conference start is not unthinkable in the least.

Too much dribbling going on and not enough passing
This is not just "one of those B1G road games", we have shown absolutely no improvement from the beginning of the season (if anything, we've become worse). This does not bode well for the rest of the way

Team isn't playing well enough to win, but the officiating is horrendous. OSU can't play tight man D without handcheck fouls whereas Illinois constantly has their hands all over Buckeye ballhandlers. Also the amount of travels missed during this game is crazy, for both teams.
I agree, the officiating has been pretty poor. That has been far from a major factor, though. No hustle, poor shooting, poor shot selection, lack of effort, and not taking care of the ball are the real culprits.
About halfway through the half and OSU has scored 6 points.

Craft has gone from All American to mundane PG... coaches are to blame, complete idiots taking an outstanding defensive specialist and a good game manager and saying ,"we are going to change your game and make you into a scorer (that you are not)"... hope Matta figures this rubix cube out, if not, teams going to be 6th or 7th in the Big 10... Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois all better teams than OSU right now...Purdue could surpass OSU at some point

rough game to watch man, It was hard. Still love every single person on this team, and March will be waiting. But right now, we gotta fix some obvious things, these turnovers gotta stop too man. But we will get better. We have to in this conference...
