Braxton Miller and the offense had probably their worst game of the season (managing only 236 total yards and 21 points), but thanks to Bret Bielema being, well, Bret Bielema, the Buckeyes were able to hold on in what was an insane overtime finish. Montee Ball had an insane game, but when it counted the defense came up huge, most notably on a goal line stand that eventually ended with Ryan Shazier evolving into Charizard and forcing a fumble.
John Simon and Ryan Shazier are pretty much the undisputed heroes tonight. Simon's four sacks were key, and Shazier was everywhere.
A lot will be said about the lack of El Guapo throughout the game, but a win is a win is a win and hey guess what?

This. Don't think you can read too much into this game outside of the fact that our D played like grown ass men. Camp Randall is a friggin twilight zone in which 9 times out of 10 something bad will happen to OSU.

And what's funny is....they didn't really contain Montee at all. Everything that needed to happen for us to win, supposedly, didn't. And we still won. Our offense was abismal - it was supposed to outshine Wisky's. Our D did NOT contain Ball like it did Leveon Bell.
Yet, we find a way to win. This season/team is magical.
Ryan Shazier, John Simon, Bradley Roby, John Hankins et al were HEROES today.
Some recent write-up on here about someone's (maybe BIG NEtwork?) assessment of the top players in the BIG left Shazier off, or had him surprisingly low....he is very much an all-conference player IMO, and I think worthy of All-American - if not this year, next year.

Get to go to their big show without winning their division. Probably win it too, just like the Dodgers did. But we all know who the better teams are.
No option plays (that I saw) this week. Maybe they noticed Northwestern had success with it against the sun and blue.
I don't think you can discount this as a factor. It didn't look much like our normal offense, that's for sure.
Having said that, if Stoneburner doesn't drop two first downs early, the end result on offense might have looked a lot different. Our big problem today was that we couldn't pass on third down.

I am so glad the defense showed up today. I've been alarmed by them at various points during the year but this was the first time I was really more comfortable to have them on the field than the offense. Granted, the offense had an off-day, but the defense was really astounding.

Big win. When that game goes into OT, 99 out of 100 people take Wisky, but we find a way to win. Biggest decision of the night? Why did Wisky put us on offense when our D had been on the field practically the last seven minutes and had just been scored on? I know it's standard to some people, but I think it was a really bad choice. Be interested to see what other people think.
Offense stopped being creative today. At times they moved easily, mixing passing, running, and Braxton. When it was just Braxton, we became one-dimensional. Still, first down in OT was huge.
Finally, Shazier. Credit Millen for noticing him at least. I don't need to hear any more conversations about the nation's best LBs without his name in it.
Because that way they would know what they had to do....TD or field goal, to win.
But I get your point. Teams always want to have the opportunity to score and win the game last. But, the OSU defense played mutha frickin L-I-G-H-T-S O-U-T!

The thing about that last Montee run which he fumbled is ... they could have EASILY scored on us that drive. BUT. You could just tell fat-face Bielma was gonna force feed Montee the ball to let him get his token record TD in front of a home crowd. I was yelling at my TV for us to stack the box, 9, 10, hell even 11 men up the middle. Bielma had basically announced to the world that they weren't gonna let anybody but Montee score that TD no matter what ... and it cost them the game. If he had put record-breaking aside for a moment (what is it with that guy & records? running up the score on Indiana? desperately trying to get Montee the record at the expense of the game?) they could've run a Play Action or bootleg that we probably wouldn't have stopped. Completely agree with you. Everyone knew it was going to be Ball with the ball. A bootleg may have been a better choice. Yet, I think there was a little more behind it than just getting the TD record. It was 4th and less than a half yard for a 1st, or just short of a yard for a TD (maybe I'm being nice to the WI coaching staff here giving them the benefit of the doubt). Had it been 4th and goal maybe they would have switched it up. But, I am really glad they elected to run Ball up the gut.
