Season opener, boys! what a cool scene...Bucks 75-59...O-H!
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
I don't even expect much from this year, but I'm still really excited for this season for some reason
That sucked.
No, live thread?
Always hard to start a new season when I remember how close we were last year and how long it took for that team to come together.
That said, I'm really excited for this team and some up-tempo basketball.
Amedeo in street clothes
He looks like Napoleon Dynamite.
"I like to kick Michigan's ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum."
Tried to UPvote wrong button. Gosh dangit
I up voted to counter. :)
And I up voted to get to the point where we would have been without fat fingers.
I hate when that happens haha
"I like to kick Michigan's ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum."
I saw him and I honestly didn't know who he was because I didn't follow the recruiting class. The group that I was sitting with collectively, and so did I, thought that he was a "special" kid that was "helping out" with the team; sortof an honorary manager.
Hells yes. Let's play some ball!
Thompson in the starting 5. Ross off the bench for instant offense, I like it.
Thompson getting the start!!! Hell yea. I wanna see some dunks!
Ravenel over Amir. Going with the senior.
Wayne Woodrow Hayes
This is very cool
Not gonna lie... this is without a doubt the corniest intro to a ball game i've ever seen.
Is the music supposed to be Top Gun-esque?
Talk to me Goose
Looks to be a decent amount of scarlet in the stands. I like it!
Two goals: buckeye win, and Aaron Craft does not go overboard!
Let your hobbies and interests supplement your life, not be the main course.
channel for cable? Im not findingit anywhere.

NBC Sports Network
1323 Time Warner
for some reason, not picking up the game! uh.............
#Buckeyes
shiiiiiiiiiit this condensation might get annoying
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
we didn't see this "condensation issue" coming?
They need a "basketball zamboni"
Need a fan at court level
Thad Matta can barely walk, don't criticize him for not wiping the floor!
I was thinking the same thing
They should have this out in the dessert. Oh wait
this is a disaster
Yeah, might even be a worse start than the football team's first quarter against Miami.
It's kinda weird watchin the Marquette players help wipe the court
Being the Navy, I would have expected the court to be wiped in a more disciplined manner.
they need a crew with big mops that run up and down the floor every 2 mins
Bush
They're going to have to dry the floor at every TV timeout...
im not so sure they should play under these conditions. If the condensation comes right back, its going to be dangerous.
This doesn't look good. They should just call off the game if it's that big of an issue
Lol, Thad: "Aaron Craft gave me a dissertation on what's goin' on."
they need to play this during the day. the condensation is so bad at night
we don't need a weather guy... have Aaron Craft explain what's going on
seriously though... i'm wondering if we're going to play this game.
It is way too dangerous out there. They should not play
Terrible decision to have this at night
I think it should be called off. We don't need anyone hurt.
WIBUCKEYE
Really? Did this not come across their minds once when they were planning this game out?
Does Nike have some stikum?
WIBUCKEYE
PLEASE just call it off! It's not worth a serious injury just to have one cool game
i think Gene is calling it...
Gene Smith says let's play. Another brilliant call by the AD.
WIBUCKEYE
This is kinda, sorta, possibly, why they play basketball indoors.
Sorry for my cynical attitude.
Casual Gene Smith in the middle of the confab.
Don't risk it. Not worth players getting injured.
Good thing ESPN is not airing, they would say play now, we've sold advertising for this specifically.
WIBUCKEYE
C'mon man! Talk about lack of planning.
Gotta cancel this. Play tomorrow during the day?
We don't need a Wounded Players Project.
WIBUCKEYE
Come on you have to postpone or cancel this, this is really dangerous
Condensation Classic.
are we going to play half court?
I needed this tonight dammmitt
This game has cluster written all over it.
WIBUCKEYE
Play scrubs to test!! I keed I keed
Titus just tweeted that they should play the walk-ons for the first minutes and see if it's ok haha.
Not going to happen. Shame but I am not interested in watching them either wipe the floor for 10 minutes every timeout or an injured player! Time to watch other games I guess.
Call the game. We don't need to see anyone get injured in what is really a meaningless regular season opener.
What's the NCAA and insurance companies have to say about this?
WIBUCKEYE
Players "We'll play anyone, anytime in any weather."
Coaches "This is not good."
Gene Smith: Not the best AD but a damn fine court whisperer!
Don't do it!
This is SO STUPID!
The 2012 National Champions.
We don't need O-H oh no.
WIBUCKEYE
Just run Dave every play. No fancy zone-reads and passing the ball tonight.
20 minute delay?? JUST CALL IT UGH
A 20 minute delay, how is that going to help??!? Isn't it going to get cooler?
I'm not a meterologist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I still don't know why, A)they have the court near the water. Isn't an ACC huge? and B) don't they have lifts for the jets to come up onto main deck that they could have built the floor on. Maybe be able to lower it down into the ACC to protect against this type of thing?
I love the idea, I hate the setup!
THe lifts are tiny compared to a basketball court. Also, Yorktown's hangar deck is full of aircraft and other artifacts- it's a museum down there, and there's no where to put them.
Also, I highly doubt the lifts on Yorktown even *work*, and if they did, there may not be any power for them.
all good points. I don't know anything about ACC except they are huge. I did forget about possible planes being on board. Still, could have come up with a better plan. Anything than a court right near the water.
Have you been on board or just knowledgable?
Honey Crafter don't give a shit
I think this might be the first weather delay in a basketball game ever.
Syracuse/SDSU got postponed too!
The court needs to be the same temperature as the air outside for the condensation to stop forming. That could take awhile if the temp keeps dropping
Oh, f'k this.
that someone smarter was Aaron Craft
If it gets 20 degrees or so colder, the court will be solid and there won't be any problems!
bummer.
Man, those shots look sick!!!! Damn, bad planning!
They really went way too far with these military games this year
I wonder what time they would tip if the decided to play this tomorrow?
I doubt they'll do that since both teams play on Sunday
As much as I want to watch this game, it would be awful to see someone go down with a big time injury from slipping. This has "ACL - out for season" written all over it. I sincerely hope that is not the case
They should have held it on the west coast like last year. Less air moisture. It would still be daylight. There are a few sprinkles around today, though.
THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS!! This is why you don't have basketball games on open roof ships! Especially in that area!
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
If they had it during the day, what happens if a pelican or a gull poops on someone's face in the middle of a layup?
This is why you make sure that the floors are heated, the same reason why hockey arenas in the south are cooled. They had the technology to do it and it was an oversight.
Aaron's dad turned into hank hill for the beginning of that interview
"boy ill tell ya what"
LOL ^
"I'll tell you what, damnit it Bobby get that out of ladybirds mouth!"
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Good night everyone. Drive home safely. Remember to tip your servers.
WIBUCKEYE
Our tax dollars at work...
Wanted to watch this game so badly tonight... It's the right call, though.
Good. I hope they never do this Carrier Classic shit again. Knowing how the people who organize this stuff though, they'll just increase the amount again and make 5 of them.
"Almost impossible to plan for?"
Really? Doesn't it get cold every night?
The best way to plan for it is to not have a game on a goddamn boat in the first place.
This whole idea was stupid. If it's at night, of course there's gonna be some condensation. I'm just kinda upset because if they do play this game tomorrow, I won't be able to see it....
No way this game gets played at any time. Both teams have games on Sunday and then road trips to early-season tournaments next week. Not happening.
can they at least play a game of P.I.G for fun/bragging rights?
Wow they just ruined a bunch of people's nights, especially the fans who made it out to the game. Stupid idea to have this game at night.
What a disaster
Well, at least Pittsburgh-Connecticut is on. Oh wait, they're playing football.
@VHX7 -- you're right. I was really looking forward to this game, because it wasn't a classic cupcake game scheduled for the first game of the season. Stupidly planned game.
Which ever team give the most signatures wins!!!! Go Bucks!
Terrible way to start the season, complete waste of money and time.
I was looking forward to this ever since it was announced, this is so disappointing
Wow, I'm really proud to have Aaron Craft represent my university.
Aaron is such a class act. Love the guy.
Craft badger signing autographs and answering questions like a boss.
WTH was with the camera when he was saying hello to his brother overseas?
Half court, game of 21 for the win! Make it take it!
Just heat the floor and this all gets solved, I like the idea of playing a game outside I just don't know why they have to do it on a boat. If they wanted to do something with the military couldn't they have just done it on a base as in like NOT OVER THE WATER.
Amir says "I'm thankful to be here and support our country".
What he means, "I'm thankful for your service and I can't wait to get off this boat".
I would like to see a game on an outside court not on a boat
All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Couldn't the floor have been designed so that neither end was close to the water? I know it's a ship, but it seemed like there was more room where the bleachers were and even behind them. Who would've thought that playing a basketball game on the ocean in 40 degree weather could cause condensation on a wood floor?
It was a conspiracy to keep OSU from winning a game in SEC country!
I'm on a boat!

Call me cynical, but I fully expect people mock/blame Ohio State for this. Our old friend Pat Forde lambasted Northwestern and Illinois for the game at Wrigley that could only play to one endzone.
Now that was a dumb choice. Not sure if the Universities should get blamed but they didn't even think about the proximity to the wall? Just dumb.
They should have moved the tip time up a few hours or had a fall back plan to play at The Citadel.
They did, actually, in case of rain. The dumb decision to delay the game for an hour made it impossible for them to move to the Citadel in time.
The only thing I really hate about the outcome was the fact that the announcer was saying how the players were telling the coaches that they could play and it was alright. Then, Matta comes on after the decision was made saying that the players were even saying that it was too slippery to play on...
I think the announcers and NBCSN were butthurt that they didn't get to do a game.
I heard Matta say that the Marquette kids didn't want to play. Never heard him say his didn't.
The backup plan in case of rain was McAlister Field House ( the Citadel's arena). Guess it was too difficult to move things there after the game had started.
Weren't there some condensation problems in San Diego last year? Obviously not as bad, but I seem to remenber them wiping down the floor a few times.
I remember a few problems, but they weren't nearly is bad. The only player I remember falling in that game was MSU's Dawsen, and that was because of the deathtrap decals all over the floor, not condensation.
That was uh...anticlimactic.
